What counts as shipping messaging
This collection covers ship-by dates, delivery windows, free shipping callouts, country-specific shipping lines, shipping price and threshold tests, and shipping protection. Some tests are wider redesigns where shipping copy was one change among several.
The win/loss record
32 wins, 0 losses or flat results recorded. That reflects what practitioners chose to share, not proof that every shipping change works. 23 of the 32 come from Dave Diederen.
Where shipping messaging was tested
- Product page: 9
- Cart: 9
- Site-wide: 5
- Checkout: 4
- Homepage: 3
- Collection page, landing page: 1 each
Pattern 1: specific dates beat vague claims
Dave Diederen tested ship-by dates five times, and all five won:
- Ships by [date] + Free shipping over $X below Add to Cart: +26.62% CVR, +28.25% RPV
- Shipping info bar below Add to Cart with ship date and country flag: +11.34% CVR, +13.48% RPV
- "Ships by Tomorrow" in place of a "Fast Shipping" badge: +7.40% CVR
- Shipping deadline bar on the PDP: +6.62% CVR, +$54,583/month
- "Ships by Tomorrow" under the cart checkout button: +9.04% RPV

Oliver Kenyon's delivery window line in the cart, tested with arrows on cart upsells, added +$127,867 per month.
Pattern 2: remove contradictions and make it local
- Removed "Shipping calculated at checkout" on a PDP that promised free shipping: +14.49% CVR
- "Congrats! You unlocked FREE shipping!" in the cart: +11.08% CVR
- "Free Shipping To DE" instead of "Free Shipping": +10.42% CVR
- Hid the pre-ticked shipping protection checkbox: +6.39% CVR, though AOV fell 2.49%
All four are Dave Diederen's tests.
Pattern 3: charging for shipping often won
Dave Diederen's shipping price tests ran against the common advice to make shipping free:
- A $9.49 shipping fee beat the control: +23.40% CVR, +43.81% RPV
- Removed the free shipping threshold: +9.17% RPV; a second test with a flat fee: +7.90% RPV
- $2, $5 and $7 fees against free shipping: the $5 fee added +$59,894/month
- Raised shipping to $6.95 and $7.95: no change in conversion rate, +A$20,478/month
These come from one practitioner's client stores. They suggest testing a shipping fee, not assuming it will win.
Cart reassurance blocks
Oliver Kenyon's dispatch, returns and payment block under the cart checkout button gained +23.8% RPV and +21.9% CVR at 99.4% confidence over 16 days and 200,000+ visitors, the best-documented test in the set.
Results to read with care
Kasper Dolk's long-form landing page (+259.7% revenue) and Ruben's trust bar (+55% conversions) changed far more than shipping copy.
How to add or change shipping messaging on Shopify
A ship-by date needs a small script or app that calculates the date from your cut-off time and skips weekends. Place it as a block directly under the buy buttons. Shipping prices and thresholds live in Shopify's shipping settings, so price tests need a tool that can split shipping rates.
How to test it on your store
Hypothesis: replacing vague delivery copy with a specific ship-by date under Add to Cart will raise conversion. Measure revenue per visitor, and for shipping price tests track profit per visitor too. Use the sample size calculator and see price testing for fee experiments.
Questions
Does showing a delivery date increase conversions?
In this archive, every ship-by date test won. Dave Diederen's 'Ships by [date]' plus 'Free shipping over $X' under Add to Cart gained +26.62% conversion rate, and four similar tests gained between +6.62% and +11.34% conversion rate or +9.04% revenue per visitor.
Is free shipping always better than charging for shipping?
Not in these tests. Dave Diederen found a $9.49 fee beat the control by +43.81% revenue per visitor, and removing the free shipping threshold won twice (+9.17% and +7.90% RPV). These results come from one practitioner, so test it on your own store.
Where should shipping information go?
Directly under Add to Cart on the product page and under the checkout button in the cart. Oliver Kenyon's dispatch and returns block under the cart checkout button gained +23.8% revenue per visitor.
