Pick PageFly if you want tight design control, a lighter page footprint and A/B testing inside the same app. Pick GemPages if you want to build pages faster with prebuilt sections, and you are happy to add its separate GemX app for testing. Both are rated 4.9 stars on the Shopify App Store and both have a free plan, so the real choice comes down to how you work.
We have not used either tool ourselves. This comparison is based on vendor pricing pages, app listings, help docs and public reviews, plus real landing page tests from the LiftArchive test database. For the wider market, see our Shopify page builders roundup.

Ratings and review counts are from the PageFly and GemPages App Store listings as of November 2026.
Ease of use: which builder is easier to learn?
Most public reviews describe GemPages as the easier one to start with. The Dropshipping Champions comparison recommends GemPages for polished pages fast with less of a learning curve, and PageFly when you want maximum design control.
PageFly gives you a granular canvas with control over spacing, breakpoints and individual elements. Reviewers like that precision, but they also say it takes longer to learn. ecomm.design describes PageFly's layout as "slightly more technical" and preferred by developers.
GemPages is not friction-free either. Some reviewers find its nested menus and settings frustrating when they just want a simple page.
Both tools now lean on AI. PageFly's FlyMate AI generates a page structure from a description, and GemPages offers an MCP connection so you can build and edit pages from an AI chat. Treat these as starting points, not finished pages.
Templates and prebuilt sections
As of November 2026, the PageFly listing claims "320+ conversion templates for every page type," and the GemPages listing claims "400+ pre-built templates & theme sections." GemPages also lists conversion elements such as countdowns, stock counters, quantity breaks and bundles, plus post-purchase upsells.
Template count matters less than what you put on the page. The biggest landing page wins in our database came from page type and copy, not from a theme.
- Oliver Kenyon tested new listicle landing pages against the homepage and saw +57% revenue and +54% CVR over 22 days.
- Oliver Kenyon also sent cold traffic to a listicle-style presell page instead of the PDP for +47% CVR and +$20k/month.
- Dave Diederen moved a week-by-week results timeline higher up a listicle and got +24.36% CVR.
So check whether a builder has good listicle, advertorial and presell templates, since those are the formats that keep winning. Browse more in our landing page tests.
Speed: does a page builder slow your store down?
Public reviews generally put PageFly ahead on speed. In one third-party test, ecomm.design measured a 1.7s mobile load time for PageFly against 2.6s for GemPages. That is a single site's test, so check your own pages with PageSpeed Insights before deciding.
PageFly's pricing page says its pages use lazy loading and modular rendering to keep the impact on speed small. GemPages makes no comparable claim on its pricing page.
The more important point is that any builder adds weight compared with native theme code. Oliver Kenyon rebuilt a winning landing page natively in Shopify and tested it against the same page built in a popular page builder. Same copy, images, structure and offer. The native version won with +9.9% conversion rate, +20.9% revenue per visitor and +10.0% average order value.
Oliver Kenyon was clear that this is not a reason to skip builders. Their advice: builders are great for speed of building, testing and iteration, but once you find a winner, move it into the theme natively.

Testing: PageFly's built-in tests vs GemX
This is the biggest structural difference between the two tools.
PageFly runs A/B tests inside the builder. According to its pricing page as of November 2026, the Optimize plan allows 3 tests at a time, Accelerate allows 10, and Power is unlimited. Its split testing guide notes you can build version B on the free plan first, then start the test once you upgrade.
GemPages moved testing into a separate app, GemX, launched in September 2024. GemX can compare a live Shopify page against a GemPages page, or two GemPages pages, with targeting by device, visitor type, traffic source, market and language.
As of November 2026, the GemX listing shows a Page Optimize plan at $49/month with 10 live experiments, and a Funnel Optimize plan from $99 to $699/month based on store revenue, with multipage funnel tests. Both have a 14-day free trial. GemX has far fewer reviews than GemPages (27 at the time of writing), so there is less public feedback to go on.
One upside of the split: GemX lists compatibility with other builders, including PageFly, Replo, Shogun and Zipify. If you want testing that is not tied to one builder, compare it with the options in our Shopify A/B testing apps guide.
Whichever you use, let tests run to a clear result. Josh Thompson tested a new page design against the existing page and saw +137% CVR, an estimated +$51,423/month. Dave Diederen saw +10.89% CVR when they hid the USP bar under the hero on an advertorial. Small layout changes like that are exactly what a builder makes easy to test.

Pricing
Prices below are as of November 2026, from the PageFly pricing page and the GemPages pricing page.
| Plan level | PageFly | GemPages |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, 1 page or section, 10 AI credits/month | $0, 1 published page |
| Entry | Builder: $24 to $34/month for 5 to 15 slots, no A/B tests | Build: $29/month, unlimited publish slots |
| Mid | Optimize: $39 to $94/month for 20 to 75 slots, 3 tests at a time | Optimize: $59/month, unlimited pages |
| Upper | Accelerate: $99/month, unlimited pages, 10 tests; Power: $199/month, unlimited tests | Enterprise: $199/month, unlimited theme sections, white-glove support |
GemPages lists lower effective monthly prices on annual billing: Build at $276/year, Optimize at $564/year and Enterprise at $1,908/year. PageFly's annual options include Accelerate at $990/year and Power at $1,990/year.
The pricing models differ in an important way. PageFly charges by published page slots, so costs rise as you publish more pages. GemPages gives unlimited publish slots from the first paid plan, but testing costs extra through GemX.
A rough example: a store that wants unlimited pages and a handful of tests would pay $99/month for PageFly Accelerate, or $29/month for GemPages Build plus $49/month for GemX Page Optimize, before any GemX discount. Check both pricing pages, since both vendors change plans often.
Verdict: PageFly or GemPages?
Choose PageFly if you or your developer care about pixel-level control, you want testing in the same app, and page speed is a priority. It is not for beginners who want a page live in an hour, or stores that need many pages on a tight budget, since slot-based pricing adds up.
Choose GemPages if you want to publish many pages quickly from prebuilt sections, and unlimited publish slots on the entry plan matter to you. It is not for stores that want testing bundled at no extra cost, or teams that are sensitive to page weight, given what public speed reviews report.
Either way, use the builder to find winners fast, then follow Oliver Kenyon's lead and move proven pages into your theme.
