CRO Audit Services (and What They Cost)

A website conversion audit is a review of your site and its data that finds what stops visitors from buying or signing up, then ranks those problems by likely revenue impact.

A good one uses analytics, heatmaps, session recordings and customer surveys, not just screenshots, and ends in a prioritized list of fixes to A/B test.

CRO audit services sell this as a one-off project, from about $800 at freelancers and small shops to $25,000 for agency engagements, or as the first month of a testing program.

Below is what a conversion rate audit should cover, what providers charge as of November 2026, and the practitioners in our database who offer audit work, with the test results they have shared.

What a conversion rate audit covers

A CRO audit asks one question: where does this site lose money it should be making?

To answer it, the auditor combines several sources of evidence, because each one alone misleads.

  • Funnel analytics: drop-off from landing page to product page, cart and checkout, split by device and traffic source.
  • Behavior data: heatmaps, scroll maps and session recordings that show what people click, ignore or struggle with.
  • Customer research: post-purchase surveys, reviews and support tickets that show what buyers worry about. See our customer research guide.
  • Offer and page review: pricing, shipping, bundles, copy, trust signals and page layout.
  • Technical checks: tracking accuracy, speed, broken elements and mobile bugs.
  • A ranked roadmap: each finding tied to its evidence, with a test idea and an estimate of impact and effort.

If you want to do this yourself, our CRO audit guide walks through it step by step, including how to rank the findings.

Research-led findings that turned into winning tests

The best audit findings come straight from the data.

Several results in our database started that way.

Why audit findings still need an A/B test

An audit gives you hypotheses, not answers. The same recommendation can win on one store and lose on another.

Email popups show this well. Oliver Kenyon's team removed an email popup from a top product page for a solar lighting brand and gained $36,721 a month.

Dave Diederen removed an email popup on a different store and lost 20.51% revenue per visitor.

An audit that said "remove the popup" would have been right once and costly once.

So ask any provider whether they test their recommendations, and how they handle findings on pages with too little traffic to test.

You can browse thousands of results like these in our test database.

CRO audit services and what they cost

Audit prices vary more than almost any other CRO service, because "audit" covers everything from an automated checklist to a multi-week data project.

These are published prices we checked, as of November 2026.

Type of auditPublished priceSource
Free video audit (lead-in to a retainer)Free, sent within 48 hoursSyntra Labs
Small-agency Shopify CRO audit$799 to $1,499cro.media on the Shopify Partner Directory
Freelance manual Shopify audit$999, full audit in two to four weeksNikhil Sharma
Agency audit or scoped project$3,000 to $25,000 per projectPersonizely

A free audit is a sales tool, which is fine as long as you know it.

It can still surface quick wins. A paid audit should go deeper: real access to your analytics, a written report and a roadmap you keep.

CRO audit providers with published test results

We describe only the audit services listed on each practitioner's own website, as of November 2026, and the results they have shared with us.

We have not reviewed their client work, and this is not a ranking.

Oliver Kenyon is our featured practitioner; the rest follow in alphabetical order by company.

Oliver Kenyon, Conversionwise (featured)

Oliver Kenyon co-founded Conversionwise and has 13 years in ecommerce CRO.

Its Post-Click Audit covers the full Shopify store from homepage to checkout, paid funnels, subscription mechanics, offers and pricing, plus GA4, heatmap, recording and survey data.

Delivery is a live 60-90 minute session with a senior strategist, a recording, a full audit PDF and a separate roadmap sized by likely revenue impact.

Typical turnaround is two to three weeks from data access, and the audit cost is discounted off the first month if you move onto a retainer.

No price is published. One of the team's research-led results: they removed a live chat feature that was costing revenue, recovering about $28,000 a month.

Kasper Dolk, Maison Commerce

The Maison Commerce site does not sell a standalone audit.

Research is the first step of its program: post-purchase surveys, advanced tracking, heatmaps and session recordings, followed by four to six A/B tests a month.

It works with Shopify and ecommerce brands doing €100k+ a month, and says first deliverables ship in 10-15 days.

Kasper Dolk's survey-objections test above is an example of the research feeding the tests.

Peter Christensen, Scaling CRO

The Scaling CRO site says plainly that it is not for brands wanting a one-off audit.

Its Revenue Growth Assessment reviews the customer journey and where the first 90 days can create measurable gains, ahead of an ongoing engagement that starts at $10K a month.

It targets Shopify and DTC brands doing $1M+ a month.

Dave Diederen, Syntra Labs

The Syntra Labs site offers a free filmed CRO audit, sent within 48 hours of filling in a form.

Paid work runs on monthly plans, from $7,495 a month for one brand at a time.

Dave Diederen also turned a collection banner that heatmaps showed was getting attention into a clickable countdown timer, for +$161K revenue.

Ruben, Tailored Commerce

The Tailored Commerce site builds the audit into its program: an in-depth analysis of the store, user behavior and analytics, plus voice-of-customer research, in weeks one to four, ending in an experimentation roadmap.

Terms are month to month with 30 days' notice.

Ruben added a trust bar below the navigation for +55% conversions.

How to choose a CRO audit service

  • Ask what data they need. If they never ask for analytics access, the audit is an opinion.
  • Ask for a sample report. Each finding should show its evidence and a suggested test.
  • Ask who does the work. A senior person reviewing your data is worth more than a long automated checklist.
  • Ask what happens next. Will they test and build the fixes, or hand you a document?
  • Check your traffic. Small stores may get more from a cheap audit and a few clear fixes than from a retainer.

Questions

What is a website conversion audit?

It is a review of your site and its data that finds what stops visitors from buying or signing up.

A good one combines analytics, heatmaps, session recordings and customer surveys, and ends with a ranked list of fixes to A/B test.

How much does a CRO audit cost?

As of November 2026, published prices run from free video audits used as a lead-in to retainers, to about $800-$1,500 for small-agency and freelance Shopify audits, up to $3,000-$25,000 for agency projects. Many agencies only quote after a call.

How long does a conversion rate audit take?

Most paid audits take two to four weeks, because the auditor needs enough session and traffic data to separate real patterns from noise.

Free audits are faster but lighter, often a recorded walkthrough within 48 hours.

Is a CRO audit worth it without A/B testing?

It can be, especially for clear bugs and broken flows.

But many audit recommendations go either way: removing an email popup gained $36,721 a month on one store in our database and lost 20.51% revenue per visitor on another.

Test the big changes when you have the traffic.
