FullStory Alternatives: Cheaper Session Replay Tools

The best FullStory alternatives are Microsoft Clarity if you want free session replay and heatmaps, Hotjar (now part of Contentsquare) for marketing and CRO teams who also want surveys, PostHog for product teams that want replay, analytics and experiments in one place, and LogRocket for engineering teams debugging front-end errors.

Mouseflow and Lucky Orange cover smaller sites that want published, predictable monthly prices.

We have not used these tools ourselves. This page sums up what each vendor's own pricing pages and docs show, as of November 2026, and links to tests from our database that started with the kind of behavior data these tools record.

Why teams leave FullStory (mostly price)

FullStory is a strong product. Its session replay uses tagless autocapture, masks data by default, and flags frustration signals such as rage clicks.

The usual reason teams look elsewhere is cost and how hard it is to predict.

As of November 2026, FullStory does not publish prices for its Business, Advanced or Enterprise plans.

Each one asks you to request pricing and a demo on its pricing page.

Mobile analytics, AI agents and surveys are sold as add-ons.

FullStory does have a permanent free plan: 30,000 sessions a month, up to 10 users and 12 months of analytics retention, per the same page.

If that covers your traffic, you may not need to switch at all.

See our FullStory review for the full picture.

Whatever tool you pick, replay is a research step, not the end goal.

You watch sessions to find friction, turn it into a hypothesis, then prove the fix with an A/B test.

Our customer research guide covers how that loop works.

What replay and heatmap data turns into

These tests from our database started from behavior data of the kind every tool below collects:

Microsoft Clarity: the free option

Microsoft Clarity is free with no traffic limits, per Microsoft.

It records sessions, builds click and scroll heatmaps, flags rage clicks and taps, and adds AI summaries of what users did.

It also has SDKs for Android, iOS, Flutter and React Native, and it connects to Google Analytics.

For a store or lead-gen site that mainly needs to watch sessions and see where people stop scrolling, Clarity covers most of what FullStory's free plan does, without a session cap.

Downsides: it is a behavior tool, not a product analytics suite.

You won't get FullStory-style event analysis, a dedicated support team, or contract-level guarantees.

It is not for regulated teams that need detailed data processing agreements and custom data controls.

More in our Microsoft Clarity review and Hotjar vs Microsoft Clarity.

Hotjar (now part of Contentsquare)

Hotjar no longer sells separately. Hotjar.com now sends visitors to Contentsquare, whose Hotjar page says "Hotjar is now Contentsquare" and that new users sign up through Contentsquare.

Existing Hotjar users can still log in with the same credentials.

As of November 2026, the Contentsquare pricing page lists a Free plan with 200k monthly sessions, replays, heatmaps, funnels and surveys, but only one project and one month of data access.

Growth starts at $39/month and adds 13 months of data and journey analysis. Pro and Enterprise need a demo.

The draw for CRO teams is having replays, heatmaps and on-site surveys in one tool, so you can watch a drop-off and then ask visitors why it happened.

Downsides: the free plan's one month of data is short, and the higher tiers move to sales-led pricing, much like FullStory. See our Hotjar review.

PostHog: replay plus analytics and experiments

PostHog charges per product, based on usage. As of November 2026, the free monthly allowance includes 5K session recordings, 1M analytics events and 1M feature flag requests, with no minimum spend.

You can set billing limits so costs don't climb past what you expect.

Free-plan recordings are kept for one month. On pay-as-you-go they are kept for 90 days, and paid add-ons extend that further, per the same page.

Because PostHog also runs experiments and feature flags, a team can watch a replay, ship a variant and measure it in one tool.

Downsides: it is built for product and engineering teams.

Setup and analysis assume some technical comfort, and a marketer who only wants heatmaps will find Clarity or Hotjar simpler. Read our PostHog review.

LogRocket: FullStory vs LogRocket

LogRocket is the alternative people mean when they search for "FullStory vs LogRocket."

Both record sessions, but LogRocket leans toward engineering.

Its pricing page stresses unlimited error, log and analytics events on every plan, and its Pro plan adds Galileo AI for session summaries and issue detection.

As of November 2026, LogRocket charges per session, starting at $176/month on an annual plan, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card needed.

Its Conditional Recording option can capture only some sessions to cut costs.

Enterprise adds unlimited seats and a self-hosted option.

The short version: pick LogRocket if bugs and front-end errors cause your conversion problems.

Pick FullStory or a CRO-focused tool if marketers and analysts are the main users.

LogRocket has clickmaps and heatmaps, but it is not built around surveys or marketing pages.

Mouseflow and Smartlook

Mouseflow publishes its prices, which most FullStory buyers can't get without a sales call.

As of November 2026, monthly plans run from Free (500 sessions) to Essential at $25 (5,000 sessions), Advanced at $109 (25,000) and Premium at $319 (100,000).

Enterprise is contact sales. Every plan includes unlimited seats, and annual billing saves up to 35%.

The free plan's 500 sessions is low for anything but a small site, and session-based plans get expensive as traffic grows. See our Mouseflow review.

Smartlook is no longer a good pick for new teams. According to its transition notice, Smartlook joined Cisco and stopped selling new subscriptions on May 31, 2026. Renewals ended on August 31, 2026, and the platform will be shut down on September 30, 2027. Its features are moving to Digital Experience Analytics in Splunk Observability Cloud.

Current users should plan an export. Our Smartlook review has more detail.

If you wanted Smartlook for a small ecommerce site, Lucky Orange is a similar option.

As of November 2026, it costs $32/month for 3,500 sessions up to $839/month for 300,000 on annual billing.

Every plan includes heatmaps, recordings, live chat, surveys, form analytics and unlimited team members.

There is a 7-day free trial. See our Lucky Orange review.

Shopify brands with more revenue can look at Heatmap.com, which ties heatmaps and recordings to revenue.

It costs $199 to $699/month on monthly billing, depending on store revenue.

That is more than Lucky Orange, so it suits teams that will actually act on revenue-per-element data.

We may earn a commission if you sign up for Lucky Orange or Heatmap.com through our links.

Pick by team

  • Small budget or just starting: Microsoft Clarity. If its 30,000 sessions are enough, FullStory's free plan is also fine.
  • CRO and marketing teams: Hotjar via Contentsquare for replays plus surveys, or Lucky Orange for a fixed monthly price.
  • Shopify brands focused on revenue: Heatmap.com or Lucky Orange.
  • Product teams that also run experiments: PostHog.
  • Engineering teams fixing bugs: LogRocket.
  • Analytics-first teams (FullStory vs Amplitude): Amplitude is a product analytics platform first. As of November 2026, its free plan includes 2M events and 10K session replays a month. FullStory starts from replay and autocapture. Pick the one whose core strength you will use most.
  • Enterprise teams that need governance, support and deep retention: FullStory may still be the right tool. Ask for a quote before you switch, since moving tools takes time.

Whichever you pick, judge it by the tests it leads to.

Watching sessions is only useful when it ends in a hypothesis you can test.
