Lucky Orange Review for Shopify: Features, Pricing and Setup

Lucky Orange is a good fit for a Shopify store that wants heatmaps, session recordings, surveys and live chat in one app, with simple setup through the Shopify App Store. It is less of a fit if you only need basic heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity is free), or if you need long data retention without paying extra. The paid plans start at $19/month in the Shopify App Store as of November 2026, and there is a free plan capped at 100 sessions a month.

We have not used Lucky Orange ourselves. This review is based on the vendor's pricing page and help docs, its Shopify App Store listing and public reviews on G2 and Capterra. We also show what store owners in our A/B test database found when they acted on heatmap and survey data.

What Lucky Orange does: the features

Lucky Orange is a behavior analytics tool. It records what visitors do on your store and shows it as heatmaps, replays and reports. According to the pricing page, every plan includes the same core features:

  • Dynamic heatmaps: click, scroll and move maps. The homepage says they also capture clicks inside dropdown menus and pop-ups, which static heatmap tools can miss.
  • Session recordings: unlimited replays within your monthly session limit.
  • Surveys and announcements: on-site surveys, with each response linked to that visitor's recording.
  • Live chat and live visitor view: see who is on the site now and talk to them.
  • Conversion funnels and form analytics: find the step where shoppers drop off and the form fields that slow them down.
  • Discovery AI: an assistant that answers questions about visitor behavior and links to the recordings behind the answer. The Shopify listing also mentions insights through Shopify Sidekick.
  • Unlimited team members on every plan.

The main selling point is that you get one tool instead of three. Many stores pay for a heatmap tool, a survey app and a chat app separately. Lucky Orange bundles them, so you can watch the recording of the shopper who just left a survey answer.

What the features are good for

A heatmap does not raise your conversion rate on its own. It tells you where to test. Our database has several tests that started with exactly this kind of data.

Dave Diederen saw +6.23% conversion rate after changing the above-the-fold USPs on a product page to the points heatmaps showed buyers engaging with. In another test, Dave Diederen turned a collection banner where heatmaps showed attention into a clickable countdown timer, which produced +$161K in revenue. A third Dave Diederen test added a countdown timer where heatmaps showed shoppers were focused and saw +20% conversion rate.

Scroll maps work the same way. Peter Christensen saw +12.64% conversion rate after rearranging homepage sections to put the most compelling content higher, based on scroll maps. Click data also helps: Dave Diederen saw +14.17% conversion rate by moving the most-clicked category to the first homepage tab and removing the Best Sellers tab.

Surveys are the other half. Oliver Kenyon's three survey-based reassurance lines above a collection page grid were worth $44,890/month. Kasper Dolk added benefit bullets in the hero that answer survey objections and reported $763,679.14 extra profit per year. Lucky Orange's survey tool is one way to collect that kind of input; see our customer research guide for others.

Downsides reported by users

Lucky Orange is rated 4.6 out of 5 from 904 reviews on the Shopify App Store and 4.6 on G2. The common complaints are consistent across sites:

  • Price for small stores: G2 reviewers say it can feel expensive for beginners and small businesses.
  • Slow or glitchy views: some reviewers report slow-loading heatmaps, glitchy live view and incomplete recordings.
  • Short data retention: paid plans start at 60 days of storage and the free plan keeps 30 days. Capterra reviewers ask for a year of data to spot trends. Longer storage is a paid add-on.
  • It does not run A/B tests: Lucky Orange shows you where the problem is, but you need a separate tool to prove the fix works.

Lucky Orange pricing

Lucky Orange prices by sessions per month. A session is one visitor's journey; it ends after 15 minutes of inactivity or when the visitor leaves, per the help center. Prices differ depending on where you buy, so check both.

Prices as of November 2026, from the Lucky Orange pricing page and the Shopify App Store listing. The help center says annual billing gives 20% off the base price, and there is a 7-day free trial with all features.

A few cost details are easy to miss:

  • Extra sites cost $5 per site per month.
  • Longer storage (90, 180 or 365 days) costs extra, and Discovery AI pricing varies by plan size, per the help center.
  • Hitting your limit: when you pass your monthly sessions, tracking stops until you upgrade or the cycle resets. Direct customers can turn on Keep Me Tracking, which auto-upgrades you to the next plan at a prorated price and is on by default for new paid accounts. The help docs say it is not available to Shopify-billed users, who upgrade by hand.

To size your plan, take your monthly sessions from Shopify analytics. A store with 30,000 sessions a month would outgrow Grow (10,000) on the full site. You can also sample: many teams only need recordings from key pages, not every visit.

Setting up Lucky Orange on Shopify

Lucky Orange has the "Built for Shopify" badge, and setup takes a few minutes. Per the Shopify install guide:

  1. Install Lucky Orange from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the setup checklist on the app's home page and click "Make sure Lucky Orange can track your store."
  3. In the Shopify theme editor, open App embeds and switch "Lucky Orange Tracking" on.
  4. Click Save, even if the toggle already looks on. Shopify does not load app embeds until they are saved.

Step 4 is the one people skip, and then they wonder why no recordings show up. There is also a manual option: paste the tracking code before the closing head tag in theme.liquid. Use it only if you have a custom setup, since the app embed is easier to remove later.

Checkout tracking and privacy

The Shopify listing mentions cart abandonment and checkout tracking. Lucky Orange's docs cover checkout page tracking in a separate Shopify Plus guide, so confirm with support what your plan and checkout setup allow before you buy for that reason.

Recordings capture real customer behavior. Check how your cookie banner handles consent and which fields are masked before you go live, especially if you sell in the EU.

Turning recordings into tests

Once data comes in, look for patterns, not single sessions. Dave Diederen's listicle sticky CTA test is a good example: triggering the sticky bar at the first in-page CTA (about 30% scroll) instead of on scroll-up gave +3.10% conversion rate. That is the kind of change scroll data suggests, and an A/B test confirms. Our guides to A/B testing on Shopify and Shopify A/B testing apps cover the next step.

Lucky Orange alternatives

Lucky Orange is not for everyone. It is not the right choice if you have under a few thousand sessions a month and only want heatmaps, if you need a year or more of data by default, or if you want testing and analytics in one tool.

Our verdict

For a Shopify store with steady traffic, Lucky Orange is a reasonable all-in-one choice: easy install, strong Shopify reviews, and surveys and chat included. Start on the free plan or the 7-day trial and watch your session count before you commit.

If budget is the main concern, start with Microsoft Clarity and upgrade when you need surveys or chat. Either way, the value comes from what you test next. Browse our test database for ideas that started with a heatmap.
