What counts as product cards
This collection covers the product tiles in collection grids: quick-add buttons, grid layout, images on the card, labels and prices, plus things placed inside the grid such as offer cards and pagination. One test reorganized a product page USP block into a card-style grid.
The answer first: win/loss record
12 measured tests, 12 wins, no reported losses. Oliver Kenyon ran eight, Dave Diederen three and Kasper Dolk one. Eleven ran on collection pages.
Where product cards were tested
Quick add and grid layout
Oliver Kenyon's reasoning for the quick-add test was that returning buyers had to open every product page to add items. A second Oliver Kenyon test combined a 2x2 mobile grid with a quick add-to-cart button for $56,285/month, and a 2x2 grid with top performers reordered reported +$49,040/month.

Images on the card
Three tests let shoppers see more images from the card, and all three won. Oliver Kenyon's image swipe on collection cards reported +$12,400/month and +$0.43 revenue per session, and swappable card images reported +$12,382/month.
Clarity on the card
Oliver Kenyon realigned cards and highlighted flavour names ($43,115/month) and added labels, visible prices and Buy Now ($29,621/month). Both made the card easier to read at a glance.
Inside and around the grid
Dave Diederen added an offer card inside the product grid and reported +20% conversion rate and +20% revenue per visitor. Dave Diederen's infinite scroll instead of pagination won a smaller +2.76% conversion rate and +3.01% revenue per visitor. Oliver Kenyon's three survey-based reassurance lines above the grid reported $44,890/month.
Biggest wins and their numbers
- Quick Add buttons on cards: +$135,307/month, +$0.19 revenue per session (Oliver Kenyon).
- Swipeable images on cards: +€96,350 at 97% confidence on 10,796 visitors (Kasper Dolk).
- Offer card inside the grid: +20% conversion rate (Dave Diederen).
- USP checklist turned into a two-column grid with icons on a product page: +14.36% revenue per visitor (Dave Diederen).
Tests that lost or were flat
None of the twelve was reported as a loss or flat. That is a selection effect worth keeping in mind: practitioners share winners more often than losers. Infinite scroll was the most modest result, and AOV did not change in that test.
For how often tests really lose across the archive, see losing A/B tests.
Design patterns that won
- A quick-add button on the card.
- Two products per row on mobile.
- Swipeable or swappable images on the card.
- Clear names, prices and a bestseller label at a glance.
- An offer presented as a card in the grid.
How to add or change product cards on Shopify
Recent Shopify themes include quick add, a second image on hover and mobile column settings in the theme editor. Image swiping on cards and offer cards in the grid usually need a theme edit or app. See collection page product card tests and product image tests.
How to test it on your store
Hypothesis: shoppers on our collection pages must open each product to add it, so a quick-add button on cards will lift revenue per session. If products have sizes, the quick add should open a size picker.
Measure revenue per session or per visitor, and check how product page views change. Use the sample size calculator to plan the run.
Ideas not yet tested
- Kasper Dolk suggests fashion cards with color swatches, size availability and quick add, and variant selectors on cards for products with 2-3 simple options.
- Kasper Dolk also suggests benefit blocks every other row of the grid.
- Dave Diederen suggests a promo card in the 4th slot of the grid, and Elevate A/B Testing suggests quick add to cart on collection pages.
