For most Shopify brands, the choice comes down to what you value more.
Pick KnoCommerce if you want benchmarks against similar brands, a wider set of question types and survey links you can send by email or text.
Pick Fairing if attribution is the main job, you want a free or cheap start at low order volume, and you like pricing that follows your order count.
We haven't used either app ourselves. This comparison is based on each vendor's pricing page, help docs and Shopify App Store listing, checked as of November 2026.

Price: flat plans vs order-based tiers
The two apps charge in different ways, and that's often what decides it.
KnoCommerce pricing
As of November 2026, KnoCommerce's pricing page lists three plans:
- Starter, $19/month: one live survey, three questions, basic question types, no integrations and no audiences.
- Analyst, $119/month: two live surveys, unlimited questions, more question types, 20+ integrations (two at a time), four standard audiences, benchmarking, trend reports and an order attribution report.
- Pro, $299/month: four live surveys, all question types including image and video, up to four integrations at once, custom audiences, Compass benchmarking, warehouse data sync and branding removal.
All plans have a 7-day free trial and are month-to-month, and annual billing gets a discount.
The Shopify listing says responses are unlimited, even on Starter.
KnoCommerce suggests Analyst for brands spending under $100k a month on ads and Pro above that.
Fairing pricing
As of November 2026, Fairing's pricing page lists a free plan for 0-200 transactions a month, Core at $49/month for 201-500 transactions, and custom Enterprise pricing from 30,000 transactions a month. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial.
The Shopify listing fills in more of the ladder: $99/month for 501-1,000 orders and $149/month for 1,001-5,000 orders.
Fairing doesn't publish prices between 5,000 and 30,000 orders, so ask before you grow into that range.
There are two add-ons. Advanced Attribution starts at $99/month, and Data Sync and API access costs $299/month and includes BigQuery.
Which costs less?
Below about 1,000 orders a month, Fairing is usually cheaper, and it's free under 200. A store with 3,000 orders pays $149/month on Fairing against $119 for KnoCommerce Analyst, so Fairing becomes the pricier option as you grow.
KnoCommerce's price doesn't change with order volume, which makes it easier to predict for high-volume stores.
Fairing's add-ons can push its total above KnoCommerce's.
Survey types and question options
Both apps put a survey on the Shopify thank-you and order status pages, and both are built around the "How did you hear about us?" question.
They differ in how far past that question they go.
KnoCommerce's docs list 13 question types. Starter gets radio, checkbox, text input and text area.
Analyst adds dropdown, slider, NPS and scale, date picker, ranking, email and phone.
Pro adds the rest, including image and video questions.
KnoCommerce also lets you send any survey as a link by email, text or QR code on Analyst and above.
That means you can survey subscribers who haven't bought yet, which is useful research the thank-you page can't reach.
Fairing's Question Stream docs list six types: single response, multi-response, open-ended, date, NPS and auto suggest.
Single-response and NPS questions support a two-step follow-up, so "Podcast" can lead to "Which podcast?"
That's narrower than KnoCommerce, but it covers what an attribution survey needs.
Attribution reporting
Both apps sell their survey data as attribution: a self-reported channel to set against what your ad pixels claim.
Fairing leans into this harder. Its homepage pitches merging survey answers "with behavioral data to reveal true channel performance."
Its Advanced Attribution add-on adds an adaptive follow-up that works out the channel, the format and the exact source.
The Shopify listing also mentions AI-generated attribution insights and LTV analysis by answer.
KnoCommerce's edge is context. The Analyst plan adds an order attribution report and benchmarking, and Pro adds Compass, which KnoCommerce says shows "how your numbers compare to similar brands."
KnoCommerce also lets you break down answers by audience, such as new vs returning buyers.
Keep the limits in mind with either tool.
Survey answers come only from buyers, and buyers misremember.
Treat the data as one signal next to your analytics, not a replacement for it.
Where this fits in CRO
The attribution question pays for the app, but the open-text answers are often worth more for conversion work.
"What almost stopped you from buying?" gives you real objections to turn into test hypotheses.
That's the research, then hypothesis, then A/B test loop in our customer research guide.
Tests in our database show the payoff. These surveys aren't credited to either app; we cite them to show what post-purchase research leads to.
- Kasper Dolk added hero benefit bullets that answer survey objections and gained +$763,679.14 profit/year.
- Oliver Kenyon added three survey-based reassurance lines above a collection page grid for a win of $44,890/month.
- Kasper Dolk removed a countdown timer from checkout, a test linked to survey research, and saw revenue per visitor +26.18%.
- Not every survey-led idea wins. Clean Commit made a free-shipping threshold more visible and got +2.4% conversion, which was inconclusive.
More examples are on our post-purchase surveys element page.
Integrations and platforms
Both apps push answers into the tools DTC brands already use, which matters most for building Klaviyo segments and feeding attribution platforms.
KnoCommerce's help center documents integrations with Klaviyo, Triple Whale, ReCharge, Peel, Daasity, Klar, Rockerbox, Segment, Shopify Flow, Postscript, Yotpo and others, plus a REST API.
One catch: Starter has no integrations, and Analyst runs only two at once.
Fairing lists 25+ integrations. Its homepage and Shopify listing name Klaviyo, Meta, TikTok, GA4, Segment, Google Sheets and Shopify Flow, plus an API and MCP server in beta.
Fairing's listing says integrations come with all plans, but API access and BigQuery sync are the $299 add-on.
Both work outside Shopify. KnoCommerce runs on WooCommerce, BigCommerce and other platforms through a universal embed on Analyst and above.
Fairing's docs cover Google Tag Manager, a custom snippet, headless Shopify and WooCommerce.
Who should pick which
Pick KnoCommerce if you want to compare your channel mix against similar brands, need ranking, slider or image questions, or want to send research surveys by link to people who haven't bought.
It also suits high-volume stores that want a price that doesn't climb with orders. See our KnoCommerce review.
KnoCommerce isn't for small stores that need integrations on a budget.
Starter's lack of integrations pushes most brands to the $119 plan.
Pick Fairing if attribution is the main job and you want the deepest follow-up on "How did you hear about us?"
It's also the easy pick for small stores, since it's free under 200 orders a month. See our Fairing review.
Fairing isn't for teams that want a wide range of research question types or a flat price at high volume.
Pricing between 5,000 and 30,000 orders isn't public.
What about Zigpoll vs Fairing?
Zigpoll is a broader survey tool that charges by responses, not orders.
As of November 2026, Zigpoll's pricing page lists a free Lite plan with 50 responses a month, paid plans from $39/month for 200 responses up to $399/month for unlimited (about $29 to $299 billed annually), and 25% off for annual billing.
Every Zigpoll plan includes on-site, exit-intent, email, SMS and post-purchase surveys.
That makes it a better fit than Fairing if you want to survey visitors before they buy, not only after.
Fairing remains the more focused attribution tool. See our Zigpoll review.
