GemX is GemPages' separate A/B testing app for Shopify.
It fits stores that already build pages in GemPages (or another builder) and want to test whole page templates or multi-page funnels without code, from $49/month as of November 2026. It is not a full testing suite: it has no price or shipping tests, and the listing has only 27 reviews, so stores that need those test types or a long track record should look at Intelligems or Shoplift.
We have not used GemX ourselves. This review is based on GemX's help docs, its Shopify App Store listing and pricing pages, plus real test results from the LiftArchive database that show the kind of tests GemX is built for.

What GemX does: page and template tests inside Shopify
GemPages launched GemX in September 2024 as its own app, replacing the older GemPages V6 campaigns, which needed Google Analytics for tracking.
The company behind it is GemCommerce, the same developer as GemPages.
GemX runs two kinds of experiments, according to its template testing guide:
- Template tests: a control page template against one variant, such as your default Shopify product template against a product page built in GemPages.
- Multipage tests: two complete sets of templates (for example homepage, collection and product page). Each visitor stays in Group A or Group B for the whole session, per the multipage guide.
You can target by device, new or returning visitors, traffic source (paid social, paid search, email, SMS and others), market and language.
GemX keeps your ad URL the same and swaps the template in the background, which matters if you test pages that receive paid traffic.
The App Store listing also lists journey analytics, page analytics and order analytics, and compatibility with GemPages, PageFly, Replo, Shogun, Zipify and EComposer.
This is the kind of test GemX handles well: big layout and page changes rather than one-line tweaks.
In our database, Milos rebuilt a best-seller product page and measured +128.46% revenue per visitor.
Oliver Kenyon replaced a generic landing page with an education-led advertorial and reported +$20,699/month.
Both are whole-page swaps, which is exactly what a template test compares.
Smaller layout moves work too, as long as you build them as a separate template.
Dave Diederen moved a week-by-week results timeline higher up a listicle page and saw +26.72% revenue per visitor.
GemX pricing and the GemPages tie-in
As of November 2026, the GemX pricing page and App Store listing show two plans, both with a 14-day free trial:
| GemX plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Page Optimize | $49/month | 10 live experiments, template tests, audience/device/source targeting, single-page analytics |
| Funnel Optimize | $99 to $699/month, scaled by monthly store revenue | Unlimited experiments, multipage tests, journey analysis, unlimited pages in analytics |
| Custom | Contact sales | For stores earning $500K+ a month |
GemX is billed separately from GemPages. As of November 2026, the GemPages pricing page lists Free (1 published page), Build at $29/month, Optimize at $59/month and Enterprise at $199/month.
The page also says new customers can no longer choose yearly billing.
You don't strictly need GemPages to use GemX.
The GemX pricing FAQ says it can test "any two Shopify pages", and the template guide lets you pick an existing Shopify template as the variant.
But the handy "Create Variant based on Control" option, which copies a page so you can edit the copy, only works when the control is a GemPages V7 template.
For most stores, GemX makes the most sense paired with GemPages.
So a store wanting unlimited GemPages pages plus basic testing would pay about $29 + $49 = $78/month at list price.
GemPages runs an affiliate program, so LiftArchive may earn a commission if you sign up through our links.
Setup and limits
Setup happens inside Shopify Admin: create an experiment, pick the control and variant templates, set the winning metric, targeting and traffic split, then start.
You can change the traffic split while a test runs, but other settings need a pause first.
The limits worth knowing before you pay:
- No price, shipping or checkout tests yet. The GemPages help article says theme and pricing tests are still in development. If you want to test something like Elevate A/B Testing's 30% price cut, which doubled conversion rate, you need a different app. See our price testing guide.
- Both templates must be published in Shopify, and Shopify's own template and API rate limits apply. The multipage guide warns that too many active templates can slow a store down.
- Multipage tests need Funnel Optimize (or the free trial).
- The stats method isn't explained. The analytics guide covers metrics and a "Make Winner" button, but the docs we read don't say how a winner is called. Plan your own sample size and run time with our guide on how long to run an A/B test.
- Little public feedback. GemX had a 4.8 rating from 27 reviews on the App Store when we checked. The single 1-star review (April 2026) reported tracking that collected no orders or visitors and no support reply. The developer responded publicly two days later.
One more caution: page builders aren't automatically better.
Oliver Kenyon rebuilt a landing page natively in Shopify and tested it against the same page made in a page builder.
The native version won by +20.9% revenue per visitor, with page speed as a likely factor.
A GemX test of Shopify vs GemPages templates is a fair way to check this on your own store, but it can go either way.
GemX vs Intelligems vs Shoplift
The two most common alternatives cover more test types and have been on the market longer.
| GemX | Intelligems | Shoplift | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting price (Nov 2026) | $49/month | From $69/month (pricing) | $99/month (pricing) |
| Pricing model | Plan, then monthly revenue | Monthly orders plus modules | Monthly visitors plus plan |
| Template / page tests | Yes, core feature | Yes | Yes, core feature |
| Multi-page funnel tests | Yes, Funnel Optimize | Theme tests | Theme tests |
| Price and shipping tests | No | Yes, core strength | Price tests on higher plans |
| Best for | GemPages users testing page designs | Price, offer and shipping tests | Theme and template tests on mid to high traffic |
Choose Intelligems if price, discounts or shipping thresholds are on your test list.
Choose Shoplift if you test in Shopify's theme editor and want a more established template-testing tool.
The full list of Shopify A/B testing apps covers more options.
If you are still choosing a builder, our PageFly vs GemPages comparison matters here: PageFly includes A/B tests in its own plans, while GemPages sends you to GemX.
Who GemX fits (and who it doesn't)
GemX fits Shopify stores that already build product pages, advertorials or landing pages in GemPages, want to test whole redesigns or funnels, and have enough traffic to finish a test.
Oliver Kenyon's funnel and product page redesign for a brain drink brand, a case study reporting +40% funnel conversion rate, is the kind of multi-page change Funnel Optimize is built to test.
GemX is not for stores that want price, shipping or checkout tests; non-Shopify sites; teams that need a documented stats engine; or low-traffic stores where a $49+/month tool will rarely reach a result (see A/B testing with low traffic).
Whatever tool you pick, the test idea matters more than the app.
Our Shopify A/B testing guide shows how to choose what to test first.
