The best Shopify search app for most stores is Shopify Search & Discovery if you only need basic filters and synonyms, since it is free and built by Shopify.
Once you outgrow it, Smart Product Filter & Search (Globo) and Searchanise are the strongest low-cost upgrades, with typo-tolerant instant search and unlimited filters from $14 and $19 a month.
Large catalogs with a merchandising team should look at Algolia, Fast Simon or Klevu.
How we picked: we read each app's Shopify App Store listing, pricing and public reviews on November 4, 2026, and matched each one to search and filter tests in our archive. We have not used these apps ourselves.
One note before the list: Boost AI Search & Filter, long a default pick, could not be installed when we checked. More on that below the entries.

The 9 best Shopify search and filter apps
1. Shopify Search & Discovery

Best for: new and small stores that want working filters and better search results without paying for an app.
What it does: Shopify's own free app controls the filters, synonyms, product boosts and recommendations your theme already shows.
It works inside Online Store 2.0 themes, so there is no extra script to slow pages down.
Key features:
- Filters on price, availability, product options, metafields and metaobjects
- Synonym groups so shoppers' words match your product names
- Product boosts to push chosen items up in search results
- Related and complementary product recommendations
- Search and filter analytics
Pros:
- Free and maintained by Shopify
- No third-party code on the storefront
- Good enough for catalogs of a few hundred products
Cons:
- Capped at 25 filters per store and 100 displayed values per filter, per Shopify Help Center
- Filter counts on search results only cover the first 1,000 results
- Weak typo handling compared with paid engines; the 2.6 rating reflects a lot of frustrated reviews
Pricing: free (Shopify App Store).
Rating: 2.6 out of 5 from 514 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
In our archive: native search is the baseline most paid apps are measured against.
When La Fée Maraboutée replaced native Shopify search with a typo-tolerant, semantic engine that looked the same, revenue per user rose 11.7% (test run by
AB Tasty).
That is roughly the gap you are paying to close.
2. Smart Product Filter & Search (Globo)

Best for: stores with deep filter needs, such as apparel by size and color or auto parts by year, make and model.
What it does: Globo's app adds an unlimited filter tree, AI semantic search with instant suggestions, and merchandising rules.

Key features:
- Unlimited filters by tag, sale percentage, reviews, metafields and variants
- Year/Make/Model search
- Spell check, synonyms and search redirects
- Nine product recommendation types
- 90-day analytics and real-time sync
Pros:
- The most-reviewed app on this list, with a 4.9 rating

Rating: 4.9 out of 5 from 2,399 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
In our archive: filters that match how shoppers choose pay off.

3. Searchanise

Best for: small and mid-size stores that want one app for instant search, filters and basic merchandising.

4. Rapid Search

Best for: lower-traffic stores that want an always-visible search bar without theme edits.
What it does: Rapid Search swaps the small magnifying-glass icon for a full search bar with typo tolerance and predictive results, and adds metafield and tag filters.
Plans are priced by monthly sessions rather than product count.
Key features:
- Typo-tolerant instant search with SKU search
- Always-visible search bar that replaces the icon
- Price, brand, color, size, metafield and tag filters
- Pin, boost, demote or hide products
Pros:
- Usable free plan (2,000 sessions, 5,000 products)
- Paid plans cover up to 100,000 products
- 4.9 rating from 417 reviews
Cons:
- Free plan is branded
- Session pricing gets expensive as traffic grows
- Fewer enterprise merchandising tools than Fast Simon or Klevu

5. Findter Custom Filter & Search

Best for: stores that hit Search & Discovery's filter caps and want the cheapest way past them.

- Year/Make/Model and merged filter values

Rating: 4.7 out of 5 from 762 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
In our archive: showing relevant products on an empty results page raised conversion rate 30.7% for Laura Geller Beauty (test by
Visually), most likely among shoppers who hit a no-results search.
8. Algolia

Best for: stores with developers, headless storefronts or businesses that also run search on a SaaS app or content site.

Key features:
- Instant search, autocomplete and query suggestions
- Rules, synonyms and AI ranking (Grow Plus)
- Recommendations and personalization
- NeuralSearch and agentic features on Elevate
Pros:
- Generous free tier for testing
- Same engine can power search beyond the Shopify store
- Scales to very large query volumes
Cons:
- Lowest rating here (3.7 from 45 reviews)
- Free plan support is community-only; enterprise support plans need the Elevate contract
- Usage pricing is hard to predict during sales peaks
Pricing: Free tier with 10K search requests and 50K records a month; Grow is pay as you go at $0.50 per extra 1K searches; Grow Plus at $1.75 per extra 1K; Elevate is custom with an annual contract (Algolia pricing).
Rating: 3.7 out of 5 from 45 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
In our archive: sending zero-result searches to matched recommendations lifted revenue 2.74% for an online retailer (test by
Optimizely).
An engine with good fallback rules makes this easy.
9. Klevu (Athos Commerce)

Pros:
- Built for teams who change merchandising weekly
- Works with Shopify Flow,
Klaviyo, Yotpo and Trustpilot
Cons:
- No public price; quote only
- Only 13 reviews on the App Store, so the 4.9 says little
- Overkill for stores without someone managing it
Pricing: free to install; plans billed by Athos Commerce, contact sales (Shopify App Store listing).
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 from 13 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
In our archive: pre-filled suggestions as soon as shoppers tapped search lifted purchases 20.4% for Safety Gear Pro (test by
VWO).
Not on the list right now: Boost and Nimstrata
When we checked on November 4, 2026, the App Store pages for Boost AI Search & Filter and Nimstrata's Retail Cloud Connect both said "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store", so new stores can't install them.
Netalico reports that Shopify disabled Boost over a security issue on October 17, 2026, and that it is back on existing stores but not on the App Store.
If you already run Boost, check the Boost status page and plan a fallback.
Both still matter in our archive: the Bee's Knees British Imports swapped Boost for Nimstrata's Google Vertex AI search and saw conversion rate rise 20.6% (test by 36 Agency).
It was a vendor-side comparison of two whole engines, not one design change.
Which one is right for you
Under 500 products, tight budget
Start with Shopify Search & Discovery. If you hit the 25-filter cap, move to Findter or Globo's entry plan.
Filter-heavy catalogs (apparel, parts, home)
Smart Product Filter & Search (Globo) for Year/Make/Model and variant filters, or Findter for unlimited filters at the lowest price.
Growing stores that want search to do more
Searchanise or Rapid Search. Pick Searchanise if you price by product count, Rapid Search if you have a big catalog but modest traffic.
Large catalogs with a merchandising team
Fast Simon or Klevu. Both reward someone who will tune rankings and campaigns every week.
Headless, multi-site or developer-led
Algolia, which can also power search on a SaaS app, help center or lead gen site outside Shopify.
What to look for
- Typo and synonym handling: type five misspelled product names on a trial and see what comes back.
- Zero-results behavior: the app should show alternatives, not a blank page.
- Filter limits: check caps on filters, values and metafields against your catalog.
- Pricing basis: product count, sessions or queries; model the cost at your Black Friday traffic.
- Theme integration: app blocks in Online Store 2.0 beat script-injected widgets for speed and fewer conflicts.
- Merchandising controls: pin, boost and hide on both search and collection pages.
- Search analytics: top queries and no-result queries tell you what to stock and what to rename.
- Exit path: know what happens to your collection pages if the app is removed or delisted.
Real test results from site search and filters
These are the clearest search tests in our archive, including one that lost.
See more on the filters and search element page and our site search guide.
Before you swap search apps, A/B test the change.
Shopify testing apps such as
Intelligems and
Shoplift can split traffic between theme versions.
Watch out for
More search is not always better. A highlighted search bar that opened with examples, product cards and suggested collections cut conversion rate 12.0% in a 22-day test, though it was not significant (test by Clean Commit).
Instant suggestions for Fragrance Hub were flat at +1.92% RPV, not significant (test by Blend Commerce).
Filters can hurt. Adding attribute filters to collection pages lost: -6.4% conversion, -33.2% revenue per visitor (test by Clean Commit).
Our best practices that failed list has more like this.
App stacking and page speed. Search apps that inject scripts load on every page.
Remove the old app's code when you switch, and check page speed on mobile before and after.
Vendor lock-in. Many apps take over collection page rendering.
If the app breaks or is delisted, as Boost was in October 2026, your collection pages can break with it.
