'Made in the USA' above product title: +53% CR, inconclusive

Flat / inconclusiveProduct page

Moving a flag icon and 'Made in the USA' text to sit right above the product title lifted conversion rate by 53.0%, but we treat the result as inconclusive.

Clean Commit ran this test for an anonymized Shopify store and published it in its A/B test library.

Only 1,408 visitors took part and the result did not reach significance, so the lift size is unreliable.

+53% CR, inconclusive
  • Conversion rate: +53.0%, with a 97.0% signal probability, but not statistically significant. Inconclusive.
  • Revenue per visitor: +75.3%, and orders +50.0%, on a very small base.
  • Add-to-cart rate: +64.9% overall, yet it fell 14.7% on mobile, a mixed signal.
  • Bounce rate: -8.2%.

Control

The 'Made in the USA' callout sat lower on the product page.

Variant

A small flag icon and the 'Made in the USA' text were moved directly above the product title.

Why it likely came out this way

Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.

  • For shoppers who care where products are made, seeing the origin first answers a question before they scroll.
  • Placing the claim next to the title makes it part of the product's identity, not a footnote.
  • With so few visitors, a handful of orders can swing the numbers, so chance may explain much of the gap.

Caveats: Very small sample: 1,408 visitors over 38 days. The agency called it a positive signal, not a win, and the mobile add-to-cart drop conflicts with the headline lift.

How to run this test on your store

Hypothesis
If we place our 'Made in the USA' callout directly above the product title, then conversion rate will rise because shoppers see a trust signal without scrolling.
Primary metric
Conversion rate
Guardrails
  • Mobile add-to-cart rate
  • Revenue per visitor
Who should test it
Brands whose buyers value domestic manufacturing. If origin is not a reason people buy from you, moving it up is unlikely to matter. You need far more traffic than this test had to confirm a result.

Questions

Does a 'Made in the USA' badge increase conversions?

It might for buyers who care about origin.

Here, moving it above the title showed a 53% lift, but the sample was too small to be sure.

Where should origin claims go on a product page?

Near the title or price, where shoppers look first, if origin is a real reason people buy.

Test it with enough traffic to reach significance.
