The best Optimizely alternatives for an online store are Convert and VWO if you want a general visual editor at a lower and more predictable cost, AB Tasty or Kameleoon if you still need enterprise features, and Shopify-native apps like Intelligems or Shoplift if your store runs on Shopify.
Most stores leave Optimizely because of its quote-only pricing and enterprise focus, not because its testing is weak.
Below we compare each option on price, Shopify fit and who it is not for.
We have not used these tools ourselves; this is based on vendor pricing pages and docs checked in November 2026, plus public reviews.
We also cite real tests from our database to show which kinds of tests need which kind of tool.
| Tool | Starting price (as of November 2026) | Free trial | Shopify price and shipping tests | Not for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Optimizely | Quote only | None listed | Not stated | Stores without a testing team or annual budget |
| VWO (Wingify) | Not listed; demo required | 30 days, no card | Not stated | Buyers who want a price before talking to sales |
| Convert | $299/mo billed annually (100K tested users) | 15 days, no card | Yes, all plans | Small stores that only need a theme test |
| AB Tasty (Wingify) | Not listed; demo required | Via Wingify, 30 days | Not stated | Small teams on a tight budget |
| Kameleoon | From $495/mo (10 experiments, 50K tracked users) | 30 days, up to 3 experiments | Not stated | Low-traffic stores that would hit quotas |
| Intelligems | From $69/mo, scales with orders | 14 days (excludes price tests) | Yes, core strength | Stores not on Shopify |
| Shoplift | $74/mo billed annually (Core) | 14 days | Price tests on Advanced ($299/mo) and up | Stores not on Shopify |
Why stores leave Optimizely
Optimizely is a strong product. Its Stats Engine uses sequential testing, so significance "self-corrects" as a test runs, and it controls the false discovery rate on primary results.
The problem for most stores is fit, not quality.
- No public price. Optimizely's pricing page lists no numbers. You tell their team your goals and get a personalized quote, and no free trial is mentioned.
- Enterprise focus. Episerver, a content management company, bought Optimizely in 2020 and took its name in January 2021. Testing is now one part of a larger digital experience suite sold to big organizations.
- Cost and learning curve. Reviewers on G2 often say it is expensive for small and mid-sized teams and that onboarding is hard without technical help.
There is also a store-specific reason. Many of the tests that make the most money in ecommerce change what the shopper pays, not just what the page says.
Dave Diederen tested shipping price levels and found a $9.49 shipping fee beat the control by +43.81% RPV.
A tool has to change the real checkout price to run that test, which is where Shopify-native apps come in.
Before you switch, check your traffic with our sample size calculator.
If you can't reach a result in a few weeks, no tool will fix that.
VWO
VWO bundles A/B testing with heatmaps, session recordings, funnels and surveys, so it can replace Optimizely plus a separate behavior analytics tool.
In January 2026, VWO's parent company Wingify combined with AB Tasty under investor Everstone.
The combined company reports $100M+ in annual revenue and 4,000+ brands.
vwo.com now leads to wingify.com, which offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card.
Wingify's pricing page lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans but no prices, so you will need to book a demo to get a number.
The heatmap side matters more than it sounds.
Good test ideas usually come from watching real behavior, and one bill for both is simpler to manage.
Downsides: no public pricing, and the product lineup may change as VWO and AB Tasty merge.
Not for: Shopify stores that mainly want to test prices and shipping, or buyers who want to know the cost before a sales call. Read our full VWO review.
Convert
Convert is the closest like-for-like Optimizely replacement with a published price.
Per Convert's pricing page, as of November 2026 the Growth plan is $399/month, or $299/month billed annually, for 100K tested users a month.
Pro is $599/month, or $420/month billed annually. There is a 15-day free trial with no credit card.
It works on Shopify and any other platform.
The pricing page now lists Shopify price and shipping testing on every plan, which covers the kind of shipping fee test Dave Diederen ran.
Convert also markets itself as privacy-first, which suits stores selling into Europe.
Targeting by market matters. Dave Diederen saw +3.16% revenue per visitor from a checkout countdown timer on one store, but the same idea for a European market lost 35.61% RPV.
You want a tool that lets you target and segment by country, not just run one test for everyone.
Downsides: multivariate testing is an add-on on Growth, and overage costs $399 per extra 100K users on that plan.
At low traffic it costs much more than a Shopify-only app.
Not for: a small Shopify store that only wants to test one theme against another. See our Convert review.
AB Tasty
AB Tasty has long been the European enterprise rival to Optimizely, with testing, personalization and feature flags.
It is now part of Wingify alongside VWO.
Today abtasty.com redirects to wingify.com, which says "VWO and AB Tasty have come together" and sells experimentation, personalization, analytics, feature management, commerce search and engagement suites.
The CEO told TechCrunch the customer experience would stay the same at first, with the platform expanding over time.
If you are leaving Optimizely for AB Tasty today, ask in the demo which product you are actually signing up for and what the roadmap is.
Downsides: no public pricing, and an unclear brand future after the merger.
Not for: small teams, or anyone who needs a stable long-term product plan right now.
We cover other options in AB Tasty alternatives.
Kameleoon
Kameleoon is the enterprise option with a published entry price.
Kameleoon's plans page lists PBX Starter from $495/month for up to 10 experiments and 50,000 monthly tracked users, a custom Enterprise plan, and a 30-day free trial with up to 3 experiments.
Its main pitch is "prompt-based experimentation": you describe a variant and its AI writes the code.
The homepage also claims a flicker-free design and a 28.4KB async snippet.
Those are vendor claims, not something we measured.
Speed is worth asking about. Oliver Kenyon saw +9.9% conversion rate just by rebuilding a landing page natively in Shopify instead of a page builder.
A heavy testing script can slow your pages in the same way.
Downsides: on Starter, you get email and in-app alerts at 90% of your quota, and experiments stop at 100%.
Not for: stores that want unlimited tests on a small budget, or teams that would hit the 50K user cap mid-test.
Shopify apps
If your store runs on Shopify, a Shopify-native app is often the best Optimizely alternative.
These apps can test themes, prices, shipping rates and offers, and they cost far less at typical store traffic.
Intelligems
Intelligems focuses on tests that change what the shopper pays: prices, discounts, shipping and offers.
As of November 2026, Intelligems' pricing page shows a Build Your Own plan from $69/month at the lowest order tier and an Unlimited plan at $1,279/month with a 3-month minimum. Pricing scales with orders, not visitors.
Josh Thompson tested a new page design against the existing page in Intelligems and saw +137% CVR, an estimated +$51,423/month.
Downsides: the 14-day trial excludes Smart Pricing, which also needs a 3-month minimum.
Shoplift
Shoplift is built for theme and template tests.
Shoplift's pricing page lists Core at $99/month, or $74/month billed annually, Advanced at $299/month, and Pro at $699/month (annual only), each with a 14-day free trial and Bayesian analysis.
Price testing, GA4 integration and subscription tests start on Advanced.
Kasper Dolk tested a new theme with a BOGO offer against the old theme and saw +44.54% conversion rate, with a 99.7% probability to beat the old theme.
Whole-theme tests like this are awkward to set up in a tool that only edits page elements.
Free Optimizely alternatives
- Shopify Rollouts: Shopify's built-in Experiments can test two versions of a theme, checkout setup, catalog or discounts, with a default 50/50 split and 90-day end date. Per Shopify's help center, you need the Grow plan or higher.
- GrowthBook: the free Starter plan covers up to 3 users with unlimited experiments and traffic, and there is an open-source version. The visual editor is only on Pro ($40/seat/month as of November 2026), so free use means a developer builds the variants.
Whatever tool you pick, report results on revenue or profit, not just conversion rate.
Milos changed a 2-pack offer to "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" at the same price and lost 52.38% RPV, or $104,679/month.
Kasper Dolk's testimonial test was judged on +7.22% profit per visitor at a 94.4% probability to beat control.
