A subscription app consultant is an outside specialist who finds and tests changes to your paywall, pricing, trial and onboarding so more installs turn into paying subscribers.
The best ones can show real experiment results, not just client logos.
Below are the app growth consultants and agencies whose tests appear in our database, what they charge where it's public, and how to pick one.
What app growth consultants do
Most of the work happens between install and first payment.
A typical engagement starts with an audit of your funnel data, then a test plan, then paywall and onboarding variants shipped through a tool like RevenueCat or Superwall.
The scope varies a lot. Some consultants only advise.
Others design paywalls and run tests for you as a managed service.
A few act as publishers and take over growth in exchange for a share of profits.
Common work areas:
- Paywall design and placement: layout, plan display, trial toggles and timing. See our paywall guide.
- Pricing and packaging: price points, plan mix and annual anchors.
- Onboarding: quizzes, goal setting and where the paywall appears.
- Trials and offers: trial length, intro offers and win-back flows.
Consultants with published test results
Each consultant below is credited on at least one test in our database.
These results are vendor-reported: the consultant or a platform partner published them, and most bundled several changes together, so treat them as evidence of skill rather than a forecast for your app.
Vahe Baghdasaryan (Tangent)
Vahe Baghdasaryan founded Tangent, a monetization consultancy that designs paywalls and runs pricing experiments.
Superwall acquired Tangent in July 2026 and says Tangent still works with apps that don't use Superwall (Superwall).
In our database, a party game app's shorter paywall with fewer plans lifted install-to-trial 31% and revenue 64%.
A food app's short paywall with a review stat lifted install-to-trial 72%.
A paid 30-day trial against a monthly plan with no trial raised D90 ARPU from $2.23 to $2.89 (+30%).
Applica
Applica is a London agency covering acquisition, product and monetization for subscription apps (RevenueCat partner listing).
Its Five Minute Journal onboarding rebuild brought +20% ARPU, about +10% trial starts and +14% trial conversions.
Its goal-based onboarding for ASL Bloom brought +15% trial conversion, +12% ARPU and +18% 30-day retention.
Phil Carter
Phil Carter advises consumer subscription companies and teaches a three-week Consumer Subscription Growth course (Maven).
One anonymized app saw +75% LTV per user from a multistep paywall in a freemium setup.
Phil Carter also shared a freemium switch that cut subscriber conversion by more than 50%, which is the kind of honest failure worth asking any consultant about.
Daphne Tideman (Growth Waves)
Daphne Tideman runs Growth Waves, focused on wellness subscription apps in the scale-up phase, with audits, three-month advisory and single strategy sessions (RevenueCat partner listing).
A 14-day vs 7-day trial test for a wellness app produced slightly more trial starts but fewer paid conversions.
Kovalee
Kovalee works as an app publisher rather than a consultant: it handles UX, user acquisition, ASO and monetization under long-term profit-sharing deals (Tech.eu).
Its PepTalk video preview paywall test found variant B clearly beat variant A, with both trending above control.
Others in the database
Marcus Burke is credited on a Blinkist timeline paywall that raised trial opt-in significantly and cut trial cancellations 4%.
David Vargas is credited on an app that removed its free trial and saw LTV per paying customer go from $35–40 to over $60 in one month.
Pricing
Few app consultants publish rates. RevenueCat's partner directory shows budget ranges, which give a rough guide (as of November 2026):
| Consultant or agency | Model | Listed budget range | Not a fit if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth Waves (Daphne Tideman) | Audit, advisory or strategy session | Under $1,000 to $10,000+ (source) | You want someone to build and ship variants for you |
| Applica | Agency: design, build, experimentation | $2,500 to $10,000+ (source) | You only need a one-off review |
| Elemental Growth | Growth advisory for Seed to Series C companies | $5,000 to $10,000+ (source) | You're pre-revenue or an indie developer |
| Phiture | Consultancy: ASO, CRM, subscription optimization | $5,000 to $10,000+ (source) | Your budget is under $5,000 |
| Tangent | Managed paywall design and testing | Not published | You want to keep testing fully in-house |
| Kovalee | Publisher with profit sharing | Profit share, not a fee | You want to keep full control of growth and revenue |
A fixed fee keeps your upside but puts the risk on you.
Profit-share deals cost nothing up front but take a cut for the long term.
Either way, budget for the test tooling, such as RevenueCat or Superwall, on top of the fee.
Get matched
Before you hire anyone, check three things. Can they show tests with real numbers, including losers?
Do they work on your monetization model, such as hard paywall, freemium or web-to-app?
And do you have enough paywall traffic to reach a result in a few weeks?
Ask how they will separate the effect of each change.
Many of the wins above were bundled redesigns, which can grow revenue but teach you less about what worked.
RevenueCat runs a public partner directory you can filter by service and budget.
