Why this space matters on the product page
The area right under the Add to Cart button is one of the most-seen spots on a product page.
Shoppers look there just before they decide. Payment icons and express buttons compete for that spot with reviews, shipping lines and guarantees, and the tests here show the trade-off is real.
Measured results
Removing or replacing icons
Dave Diederen hid the payment icons below the ATC button.
Conversion rate rose 9.77%, revenue per visitor 14.12% and AOV 3.97%.
Ruben replaced payment and policy icons with customer social proof in the same spot and saw +5.25% conversion rate.
Both point the same way: on these stores, icons were taking up space that something else used better.
Adding express buttons or icons
Milos added express checkout buttons (Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay) under the buy box: +9.26% revenue per visitor, +8.05% conversion rate, about +$11,970/month.
Oliver Kenyon went the other way on the button and the same way on the icons.
They removed the Shop Pay Buy Now button and added payment icons under Add to Cart, with a reported $44,562/month and a higher ATC rate.
One likely reason: a second big button can pull attention from Add to Cart.
Simplifying the buy box
Oliver Kenyon also cut the number of payment options shown, as part of a redesign with simpler size selection, clearer USPs and a stronger ATC button.
It added $36,240/month and +$0.62 revenue per session.
Several changes were bundled, so the payment part can't be isolated.
Showing the right currency
Dave Diederen added currency codes (USD, EUR, GBP) next to prices based on shopper location: +5.49% conversion rate and +4.88% revenue per visitor.
It's a small change that removes doubt about what the shopper will actually be charged.
Losing or flat tests
None are listed. But because opposite changes both won, at least some of these would likely lose on a different store.
The honest summary is that the right answer depends on your shoppers and what else is in the buy box.
Untested ideas
Most of the 11 ideas come from Kasper Dolk, and they share a theme: answer the shopper's last questions near the ATC button.
- Put shipping cost, delivery time and accepted payment methods directly under Add to Cart.
- Show buy now, pay later plans (Afterpay, Klarna) near the price, so shoppers don't only find them at checkout.
- Restyle payment icons so they don't look like buttons.
- Add a CTA, payment methods and social proof to image and text benefit sections lower on the page.
Patterns that won
- If the space under ATC holds only icons, test swapping in social proof.
- If you show a Buy Now button, test removing it so Add to Cart stands alone.
- If you have no express buttons, test adding them, as Milos did.
- Show prices in the shopper's own currency.
Related tests elsewhere on the store
At checkout, adding payment icons under the express buttons won for Dave Diederen.
Shoppers there have already decided to buy, so the trade-off is different from the product page.
