Currency codes next to product prices: +5.49% conversion rate
Dave Diederen added currency codes like USD, EUR and GBP next to product prices on a Shopify store, and conversion rose 5.49%. Revenue per visitor rose 4.88%. A small script picked the code based on where the shopper was.
- Conversion rate: 4.74% to 5.00% (+5.49%, range +2% to +15%).
- Revenue per visitor: $2.48 to $2.60 (+4.88%, range +1% to +19%). Both ranges stay above zero.
- The testing dashboard estimated about +$47,295 a month and roughly 1,020 more orders a month.
The change
Variant adds a location-based currency code after each price.
Simplified mockup drawn by LiftArchive from the shared screenshots.
Control
Prices showed only a symbol, for example $24.95 with a $40.00 compare-at price.
Variant
The same prices with a currency code added, for example $24.95 USD with $40.00 USD struck through. The code matched the shopper's location.
Why it likely won
Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.
- a dollar sign can mean several currencies, so international shoppers may hesitate when unsure what they'll pay.
- removing that doubt right at the price cuts one reason to pause before buying.
- the change is tiny, so it shouldn't distract or clutter the page.
Caveats: One store, and the test duration and sample size were not shared. The before/after images are mockups, not the store's real page.

How to run this test on your store
- Hypothesis
- If we show the currency code next to every price based on shopper location, then conversion will rise because international shoppers know exactly what currency they're paying in.
- Primary metric
- Conversion rate
- Guardrails
- Revenue per visitor
- Conversion by country
- Checkout abandonment
- Who should test it
- Stores with a meaningful share of international traffic, especially where several countries use the same symbol. It's unlikely to matter for a store selling only in its home country.
Questions
Should I show the currency code next to prices?
If you sell internationally, it's worth testing. Here it lifted conversion 5.49% and revenue per visitor 4.88%.
How do you show a currency code based on location?
Dave used a small JavaScript snippet on Shopify that detects the shopper's location and shows the matching code.
Why would a currency code affect sales?
A symbol like $ is used by several currencies. Showing USD or another code removes doubt about the real price.
