Demo pop-up on carrier load board page: +11% conversions

WinnerDemo request

A pop-up demo request form on the carrier load board page lifted conversion rate by 11%, beating both the control and a bottom-of-page demo CTA.

Truckstop.com's in-house experimentation team ran the test, published as a VWO case study.

It followed an earlier pop-up test on the broker page.

+11% conversions
  • Pop-up variant: +11% conversion rate against the control.
  • The bottom-of-page CTA lost to the pop-up, but its own result is not given.

Control

The carrier load board page had no demo form. Truck drivers and carriers had no prompt to ask for a demo.

Variant

Variant 1 used the same pop-up demo form as the broker page test. Variant 2 instead placed a "Looking for a demo?" CTA at the bottom of the page.

Why it likely won

Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.

  • A pop-up reaches every visitor, while a bottom CTA is only seen by those who scroll to the end.
  • Carriers are described as less tech-savvy, so a clear, direct prompt may help more than a link they have to find.
  • The same idea had already won on the broker page, which suggests demand for demos was there but under-served.

Caveats: Sample size, duration, confidence and the test date are not shared. The result for the bottom CTA is not reported.

How to run this test on your site

Hypothesis
If we show a demo request pop-up on a product page, then more visitors will request a demo than with a bottom-of-page CTA because every visitor sees it, not only those who scroll.
Primary metric
Demo requests per visitor
Guardrails
  • Bounce rate
  • Demo qualification rate
  • Mobile usability complaints
Who should test it
B2B SaaS teams with sales-assisted products and audiences that may not hunt for a demo link. It may not fit content-heavy pages where visitors want to read first, or brands whose users react badly to interruptions.

Questions

Is a pop-up better than a CTA at the bottom of the page?

In this test the pop-up beat a "Looking for a demo?" CTA at the page bottom.

A pop-up reaches visitors who never scroll that far.

Should I run the same test on different audiences?

Yes. Truckstop.com repeated the broker pop-up test for carriers and got a smaller but still positive lift of 11%.

How do I keep a demo pop-up from annoying visitors?

Show it on high-intent pages, make it easy to close, and watch bounce rate during the test.
