Bestseller badge moved from image to above title: +6.05% conversion
Moving the "Bestseller" badge from the product image to just above the title raised conversion rate by 6.05% and revenue per visitor by 6.37%. Dave Diederen ran this test. A second store's test showed a 9.04% conversion lift with a badge in the text area.
- Conversion rate rose 6.05% (2.52% to 2.67%), about 885 extra orders a month by the dashboard's estimate.
- Revenue per visitor rose 6.37% ($1.12 to $1.20), about $41,589 a month.
- Average order value showed no change.
- A third arm, labeled "With Reviews Hidden", landed in between (2.57% conversion, $1.15 RPV).
- In a second store's test ("With Badge" vs control), conversion rose 9.04%, revenue per visitor 8.44% and profit per visitor 7.80%, with AOV unchanged.
The change
The Bestseller badge moves off the image to sit above the title.
Simplified mockup drawn by LiftArchive from the shared screenshots.
Control
A "Bestseller" badge sat on top of the product image.
Variant
The same badge, with the same words, was placed above the product title, in the text area near the reviews line.
Why it likely won
Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.
- shoppers look at the product in the image, not text laid over it, so a badge there gets missed.
- above the title is where shoppers start reading, so the badge frames the product before they see its name.
- "Bestseller" is social proof, and it works best where people will actually read it.
Caveats: Sample size and duration were not shared, and the ranges cross zero. The second test's dashboard labels it "With Badge", so it may compare against no badge at all, not a move.

How to run this test on your store
- Hypothesis
- If we move the Bestseller badge from the product image to above the title, then more visitors will buy because they will actually read it.
- Primary metric
- Conversion rate
- Guardrails
- Average order value
- Revenue per visitor
- Add-to-cart rate
- Who should test it
- Stores that already show a bestseller or similar badge on product images. It only helps if the product truly is a bestseller.
Questions
Where should a Bestseller badge go on a product page?
In this test, above the title beat on the image. Conversion rate rose 6.05% and revenue per visitor rose 6.37%.
Why do badges on product images get ignored?
Dave Diederen's view is that shoppers scan the image for the product itself, so overlaid text blends in.
Does a Bestseller badge change order value?
Not here. AOV showed no change in either test shared.
