Review stars moved above the product title: +9.26% conversion
Moving the review stars from below the product title to above it raised conversion rate by 9.26% and revenue per visitor by 8.89%. Dave Diederen ran this A/B test on a Shopify store with 158,166 visitors and 2,069 orders. They estimated the gain at $71,317 a month, though the test was still running when shared.
- Conversion rate rose 9.26%, from 1.23% to 1.34%, estimated at 865 extra orders a month.
- Revenue per visitor rose 8.89%, from $1.06 to $1.15, estimated at $71,317 a month.
- Average order value showed no change ($85.89 vs $85.60).
- A second above-title version also beat control (1.35% conversion, $1.13 RPV).
- The ranges were wide (conversion -2% to +21%), so a small loss was not fully ruled out.
The change
The star rating moves from below to above the product title.
Simplified mockup drawn by LiftArchive from the shared screenshots.
Control
The product title came first, with the star rating and review count underneath, followed by pack-size options.
Variant
The star rating and review count moved above the product title. Nothing else on the page changed.
Why it likely won
Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.
- putting stars first means shoppers see social proof before anything else.
- the rating gets read as part of the headline rather than as small print below it.
- both above-title versions won, which points to placement as the driver rather than styling.
Caveats: The test had no end date when shared and the confidence ranges include small losses. Results come from a single store.

How to run this test on your store
- Hypothesis
- If we move the review stars above the product title, then more visitors will buy, because they see social proof before they read anything else.
- Primary metric
- Conversion rate
- Guardrails
- Revenue per visitor
- Average order value
- Review section clicks
- Who should test it
- Stores with a solid rating and a decent review count on their product pages. If your products have few or weak reviews, more prominence may not help.
Questions
Should review stars go above or below the product title?
In this test, placing them above the title lifted conversion by 9.26% compared with below. Two versions with stars above both beat the original.
Does moving review stars change average order value?
No. AOV stayed flat, so the gain came from more visitors buying.
How big a change is needed to see a conversion lift?
This test only moved one element and changed nothing else. Small layout shifts in key spots can still move results.
