For most Shopify stores, the best post-purchase upsell app is a dedicated one-click tool: AfterSell, ReConvert or Zipify OneClickUpsell. Pick based on how your bill grows with order volume. Rebuy is the better choice if you also want a smart cart and on-site recommendations from the same vendor. Whichever app you choose, the offer matters more than the app: Dave Diederen got a 16.64% acceptance rate on a 1-click post-purchase upsell by offering the obvious next product.
This guide covers how post-purchase upsells work on Shopify, compares the main apps using their public listings and docs, and then shows what real tests in our database say about which offers win.
How post-purchase upsells work on Shopify
A post-purchase upsell is an offer shown after the customer pays but before they reach the thank-you page. If they accept, the item is added to the order they just placed. They don't re-enter card details, and the order isn't split.
Shopify runs this through post-purchase checkout extensions. All merchants can use published apps from the Shopify App Store that offer the feature. Shopify's developer docs say only Plus merchants can install custom apps that use it. The docs also still describe the extension as beta, and live stores need approved access, which the apps handle for you.
It helps to separate three placements that people often call "post-purchase upsells":
- Post-purchase page (one-click): between payment and the thank-you page. Available on every plan through an app.
- Thank-you and order status page offers: a cross-sell, discount or survey after the order is final. Shopify's checkout UI extension docs restrict only the information, shipping and payment steps to Plus, so these pages are open to all plans.
- In-checkout upsells and order bumps: a checkbox or product block inside checkout itself. These need Shopify Plus.
One catch most app pages bury: payment methods. One-click offers only work when the payment can be charged again without the customer. Zipify's support docs list Shopify Payments, direct card processors and Shop Pay as supported (but not Shop Pay's 4-payment installments). PayPal Express works only if the account is approved for automatic payments. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Afterpay, Klarna, Affirm and Sezzle are not supported. Customers who pay with those methods skip the offer. If a large share of your orders goes through wallets or buy-now-pay-later, expect fewer people to see it.
Post-purchase upsell apps compared
We have not used these apps ourselves. The prices and features below come from each vendor's Shopify App Store listing or pricing page as of November 2026. Most of them bill by order volume or upsell revenue, so check where your store sits before comparing headline prices.
| App | Entry price (as of November 2026) | How the bill scales | Placements | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AfterSell (by Rokt) | $34.99/month Post-Purchase plan | Flat plan tiers; $79.99/month Complete adds cart and product page tools | One-click post-purchase, thank-you page, checkout (Plus) | Stores that want a focused post-purchase tool with funnels |
| ReConvert | Free up to 50 orders; $9.99/month for 51-100 orders | By monthly orders ($19.99 for 101-200, $39.99 for 201-500) | Product page, cart, checkout, post-purchase, thank-you page | Smaller stores that want a low starting cost |
| Zipify OneClickUpsell | $9.95/month Starter (up to $200 upsell revenue) | By upsell revenue: $25-$99 Growth, $149-$999 Pro | Post-purchase, product page, pre-purchase, checkout, thank-you page | Stores that want cost tied to what the upsells earn |
| Rebuy | From $25/month per package; free Monetize tier | By monthly Shopify orders; discounts for bundled packages | Smart cart, product pages, checkout, post-purchase, thank-you page | Larger stores that want cart, recommendations and post-purchase in one place |
AfterSell
AfterSell, now owned by Rokt, is built around the post-purchase step. The App Store listing shows one-click offers, downsell funnels, subscription upgrades, thank-you page offers and checkout widgets for Plus. It had a 4.9-star rating from 1,112 reviews when we checked. All plans come with a 30-day trial.
Downsides: the post-purchase plan starts higher than its rivals' entry tiers. If you also want the cart features, you need the $79.99 Complete plan. The listing promotes Rokt Thanks, which puts third-party offers on your thank-you page. That brings in a little revenue per order but sends customers' attention to other brands. Not for: very small stores with a few dozen orders a month, where the flat fee is hard to earn back.
ReConvert
ReConvert started as a thank-you page builder and now covers upsells across the product page, cart, checkout and post-purchase page. Its listing showed 4.8 stars from 3,126 reviews, with A/B testing and AI-generated campaign setup.
Downsides: pricing rises with every order tier, so a growing store's bill grows even if the upsells aren't earning more. Having so many placements makes it easy to stack offers on every page, which our database suggests can backfire (see below). Not for: stores that want one carefully tested offer rather than a toolkit of widgets.
Zipify OneClickUpsell
Zipify OCU charges by the revenue your upsells bring in, not by total orders. Its listing showed 4.5 stars from 573 reviews and includes built-in A/B testing. Zipify also publishes the clearest payment processor compatibility list of the group.
Downsides: the Pro tier goes up to $999/month at high upsell revenue. Some reviewers on the listing mention limits on matching products dynamically across collections. Not for: stores that want detailed, rule-heavy recommendations across a large catalog.
Rebuy
Rebuy is a wider personalization platform. Its pricing page sells packages (Cart and Merchandising, Checkout and Post-Purchase, Search and Collections, Flows and A/B Testing) starting at $25/month each, priced by monthly orders, with a 14-day trial. A free "Monetize" tier covers post-purchase and thank-you page monetization.
Downsides: you need the paid Checkout and Post-Purchase package to run your own post-purchase upsells. The full Platform One suite is quote-only. For a store that only wants one post-purchase offer, it is more platform than you need. Not for: early-stage stores, or anyone who just wants a single offer live this week.

Offer types that win
The app only decides where an offer appears and how you pay for it. Whether customers accept it comes down to the offer. Across the upsell tests in our database, a few patterns repeat.
Complementary, single-product, one click
Dave Diederen's client offered one complementary product after purchase and saw a 16.64% offer acceptance rate, at $16.50 per accepted offer. Dave's rule: if someone bought a face serum, offer the moisturizer that goes with it. One product, one click, a natural next step.

Low-friction add-ons
Small, easy add-ons get taken often. Kasper Dolk reports a 50% take rate on a checkbox upsell in the Shopify Plus checkout for fashion clients. Kasper also saw 15-20% take rates on a custom AOV order bump, worth an estimated $100-200k in extra profit. Both are in-checkout placements, so they need Plus, but the same thinking applies after purchase: cheap, obvious, one decision.
Priced in proportion to the order
An offer can be too small to matter, or out of step with the basket. Oliver Kenyon removed a $25 pre-checkout upsell on a store with a $300 AOV, as part of a slide cart redesign, and reported +$31,000/month. The upsell sat before payment and added friction. Post-purchase placement avoids that problem because the main order is already paid.
Test which product you offer
Changing the product can move results more than changing the design. Milos tested a leather strap against a mystery box as the cart drawer upsell and saw +15.26% revenue per visitor (+$28,912/month). Dave Diederen tested two different upsell products in the same add-to-cart popup and got +7.80% RPV. Most of the apps above include A/B testing, so use it on the product choice first. Our upselling guide covers how to pick candidates.
Results from the database
The most useful test here is the most modest one. Kasper Dolk ran upsells vs no upsells with about 398,600 visitors per arm. Revenue per visitor went from $1.46 to $1.49 (+1.86%, est. +$26,471/month). Profit per visitor rose +1.80%, and AOV stayed flat at $97.75 vs $97.88.
That is a real win, but far smaller than the "+30% AOV" claims common on app pages. Kasper's advice: judge upsells on profit per visitor with statistical significance, not on upsell revenue alone. An app dashboard showing "upsell revenue" counts every accepted offer. It doesn't show orders you lost or margin you gave away on discounts.

Here are the upsell tests most relevant to post-purchase and checkout offers:
A practical way to start:
- Check what share of your orders use one-click-compatible payment methods. That caps how many customers can see the offer.
- Pick one complementary product with good margin, priced well below your AOV.
- Install the app whose pricing model fits your volume, and run the offer against a no-offer control.
- Judge it on profit per visitor over the full order, then test a second product.

Questions
What is a post-purchase upsell on Shopify?
It is an offer shown after the customer pays but before the thank-you page. If they accept, the product is added to the same order with one click and no re-entry of card details. Shopify supports it through post-purchase checkout extensions, which App Store apps use on every plan.
Do I need Shopify Plus for post-purchase upsells?
No. Any Shopify plan can run one-click post-purchase offers and thank-you page offers through a published app. Shopify Plus is only needed for upsells inside checkout itself (information, shipping and payment steps) and for custom-built post-purchase apps.
What is the best post-purchase upsell app for Shopify?
AfterSell, ReConvert and Zipify OneClickUpsell are the focused options; choose by pricing model (flat plan, order-based or upsell-revenue-based). Rebuy suits larger stores that also want a smart cart and recommendations. The offer you choose matters more than the app.
Why don't some customers see my post-purchase offer?
One-click offers need a payment method that can be charged again. According to Zipify's docs, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Afterpay, Klarna, Affirm, Sezzle and Shop Pay installments are not supported, and PayPal needs automatic payments approval. Customers paying that way skip the offer.
What acceptance rate should I expect from a post-purchase upsell?
It depends on the offer. In our database, Dave Diederen saw a 16.64% acceptance rate on a single complementary product. Measure the result on profit per visitor against a no-offer control, not on upsell revenue alone.
