Why product images matter on the collection page
On a collection page, shoppers compare many products at a glance, and the image does most of that work. One photo often doesn't show enough: the back, the fit, the product in use. If shoppers have to open each product page to see more, many won't.
Measured results
Swipeable images on product cards
Four tests, from three practitioners, added a swipe or image swap to collection cards. All won.
- Dave Diederen let shoppers swipe through full galleries: +10.49% conversion rate, +11.60% revenue per visitor, +11.83% profit per visitor and +1.00% AOV.
- Kasper Dolk's swipeable collection images: +€96,350 revenue lift over 10,796 visitors at 97% confidence.
- Oliver Kenyon's image swipe on product cards: +$12,400/month and +$0.43 revenue per session.
- Oliver Kenyon's swappable product images: +$12,382/month.

Images for navigation
Dave Diederen also added an image-based category slider to help shoppers move between categories. It brought +$161K in additional revenue across 158,691 visitors and 1,612 orders. Here the images help shoppers find the right collection, not judge a single product.
Losing or flat tests
There are none in this hub. With five tests, that's a thin record, and published results lean towards wins. One thing to watch when you test swipe: make sure it doesn't slow page load or clash with horizontal scrolling elsewhere on the page.
Untested ideas
The 10 ideas, mostly from Kasper Dolk, focus on what goes around the image:
- Colour swatches under product images so shoppers see variants without clicking.
- A grid-size toggle that switches between large, medium and small images.
- Consistent product images across the grid.
- A Best Seller badge in the top-left of the card image, as Dave Diederen suggests.
- Image-based category tiles under the collection banner.
- A 2x2 grid for products where imagery matters less than it does for clothing.
Patterns that won
- Show more than one image per card, and make it swipeable on mobile.
- Use images, not just text links, to help shoppers move between categories.
- Measure the result on revenue per visitor or revenue, as all five tests here did.
Related tests elsewhere on the store
The collection page product card hub covers quick add buttons, 2x2 grids and offer cards in the grid, which often go alongside image changes. Image swipe tests appear there too.
