Clickable sale announcement bar to clearance: +$1.82 per session
Adding a clickable announcement bar that promoted a sale and linked to the clearance page raised revenue per session by $1.82. Oliver Kenyon ran this test, and it was forecast at about $57,000 a month. The offer, pricing and traffic stayed the same.
- Revenue per session rose by $1.82.
- Forecast revenue: about +$57,000 a month, or +$684,000 a year. These are projections.
- Conversion rate, click-through rate and margin impact were not shared.
The change
A clickable sale bar linking to the clearance page is added above the header.
Simplified mockup drawn by LiftArchive from the shared screenshots.
Control
The site had no announcement bar promoting the sale. Shoppers landed straight on the header and hero.
Variant
A bar above the header advertised a limited September sale of 60% off. The whole bar linked directly to the clearance page.
Why it likely won
Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.
- the sale already existed, but many visitors never knew about it. Making it visible on every page fixed that.
- the clearance page already converted well, so sending more people there was a quick win.
- a single click from any page to the deals removed the need to hunt through the menu.
Caveats: Sample size, test length and significance were not shared, and the dollar figures are forecasts. A 60% off sale page may carry lower margins, which were not reported.

How to run this test on your store
- Hypothesis
- If we add a clickable announcement bar that links straight to our sale page, then revenue per session will rise because more visitors discover the offer and reach it in one click.
- Primary metric
- Revenue per session
- Guardrails
- Gross margin per order
- Full-price sales share
- Average order value
- Who should test it
- Stores with an active sale or clearance page that already converts. It won't help if there's no real offer, and it may pull buyers away from full-price items.
