Trust USPs in the checkout banner: +20% checkout conversion
Adding three trust-focused selling points to the checkout banner, plus trust points under the main button, lifted checkout conversion rate by 20%. Dave Diederen ran this test for a Shopify brand. No other metrics were shared.
- Checkout conversion rate up 20%. More shoppers who reached checkout went on to pay.
- No revenue, order value, sample size or duration figures were shared.
The change
Trust USPs appear in the checkout header and directly under the purchase button.
Simplified mockup drawn by LiftArchive from the shared screenshots.
Control
The checkout header showed only the store logo, and nothing reassuring sat under the main call to action.
Variant
The header added three order-related promises next to the logo, such as a guarantee, fast shipping and secure checkout. Trust points like a satisfaction guarantee and a shipped-products count were placed under the purchase button.
Why it likely won
Our reading of the result, not the practitioner's claim.
- checkout is where doubts about delivery and refunds peak, so reassurance there lands at the right moment.
- a guarantee right under the pay button answers the last question before the click.
- a branded header with proof makes a stripped-down checkout feel less anonymous.
Caveats: No dashboard, sample size or duration was shown. The screenshot is an example from another brand that the post points to, not the tested store's checkout.

How to run this test on your store
- Hypothesis
- If we add three trust USPs to the checkout header and below the main button, then checkout conversion will rise because shoppers feel safer at the moment they pay.
- Primary metric
- Checkout conversion rate
- Guardrails
- Revenue per visitor
- Average order value
- Refund rate
- Who should test it
- Shopify stores with a bare checkout and real promises to state, like a money-back guarantee or fast shipping. Gains will be smaller if checkout completion is already very high.
Questions
What trust messages work at checkout?
This test used order-related promises such as a guarantee, fast shipping and secure checkout. It reported a 20% lift in checkout conversion.
Can I customise the Shopify checkout header?
Yes, the header and the area under the pay button can carry custom content. This test used both spots.
Where should trust badges go on the checkout page?
Here they went in two places: the top banner and right under the main button. The second spot catches shoppers at the final click.
