Switching the homepage banner from a light static image to a dark-background carousel with a lifestyle image and green button added about $15,989 a month in revenue. Convertibles ran this A/B/n test for a 7-figure VR gunstock brand that sent its ad traffic to the homepage, and published it as a Convertibles case study. Background and format changed together in the winner, so the gain cannot be split between them.

## Result

**+$15,989/month revenue**

- Monthly revenue: about +$15,989 for the dark carousel, as reported by the agency.
- A light carousel with the same content did not win.
- A light static version of the new layout did not win either.
- Sample size, duration, confidence and conversion rate were not shared.

## Control

The homepage banner had a light background with a single static product image, the headline "THE BEST DAMN VR GUNSTOCK ON THE PLANET", a call-to-action button and a Special Offer side tab.

## Variant

The winning banner used a dark background, a swipeable carousel with navigation dots, a lifestyle image of someone using the product, and the same headline and call to action with a green button.

## Why it likely won (our reading)

- The product is dark, so a dark background likely made it stand out instead of blending in.
- A carousel can show the product, the product in use and other messages without extra scrolling.
- Most visitors arrived from ads, and a dark page may have felt like a smoother step from a dark social feed.
- Neither the dark-only nor carousel-only change was tested on its own, so it is unclear which mattered more.

## Caveats

Background and format changed together in the winner, along with a new lifestyle image. Revenue is agency-reported, and sample size, duration and confidence were not shared.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we switch our homepage banner to a dark background and a carousel with lifestyle imagery, then revenue will rise because the product stands out and visitors see more reasons to buy above the fold.
- Primary metric: Revenue per visitor
- Guardrail: Homepage bounce rate
- Guardrail: Click-through from the banner
- Guardrail: Conversion rate
- Who should test it: Stores selling dark-coloured tech, gaming or performance products, especially if paid traffic lands on the homepage. Wellness, beauty and home brands may do better with light designs, so do not assume dark wins.
