A redesigned promo paywall that showed the 50% discount as a price chart lifted paywall-view-to-subscription conversion from 2.7% to 3.24%, a gain of over 20%. Vahe Baghdasaryan's agency, Paywalls.Design, ran this test for a crypto portfolio tracking app, and it was published on the RevenueCat blog. Several design and copy changes shipped together.

## Result

**2.7% → 3.24% (over +20%)**

- Paywall view to subscription: up from 2.7% to 3.24%, a relative gain of over 20%.
- This is a bundled result. Framing, chart, visuals and copy changed together, so no single element gets the credit.
- Not shared: sample size, test length, revenue per user or retention of the new subscribers.

## Control

The app's original promo paywall, shown to freemium users to convert them into paid subscribers.

## Variant

A redesigned promo paywall framed around "Buy The Dip", with a price chart showing the 50% drop and a "Back to $15.99/month" marker. It added bold gradients and a "SALE" callout, and the copy read like an insider tip.

## Why it likely won (our reading)

- "Buy The Dip" is a phrase crypto users already act on, so the offer read as a smart move rather than a generic sale.
- A chart with a return-to-full-price marker makes the discount concrete and suggests it won't last.
- Bold visuals and a clear sale label make the offer hard to miss on a screen users often skip.

## Caveats

Several design and copy changes shipped at once, and sample size and duration were not shared. The result was reported by the agency that designed the winning paywall.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we show our promo discount as a visual price drop with a return-to-full-price marker, then paywall-to-subscription conversion will rise because the saving feels real and time-limited.
- Primary metric: Paywall view to subscription conversion
- Guardrail: Revenue per paywall view
- Guardrail: Renewal rate when the discount ends
- Guardrail: Refund rate
- Who should test it: Freemium apps that run discount offers to convert free users. The framing works best when it matches language your users already know; a borrowed trading phrase may fall flat outside finance apps.
