Adding a floating quick-add bag icon to mobile collection cards cut conversion rate by 4.9% and orders by 5.4%. Clean Commit ran this test for an anonymized Shopify store and published it in its A/B test library. Average order value rose 6.4%, which kept revenue per visitor about flat.

## Result

**-4.9% conversion rate**

- Conversion rate: -4.9%, and -7.7% on mobile, where the icon appeared.
- Add-to-cart rate: -2.7%, the main metric. The original had a 75.4% probability of performing better.
- Orders: -5.4%.
- Average order value: +6.4%, so revenue per visitor stayed roughly flat at +1.2%.

## Control

Mobile collection page cards with no add-to-cart button, so shoppers opened the product page to buy.

## Variant

Each mobile card got a floating bag icon that added the default variant in one tap. Products with several variants asked shoppers to pick a size first.

## Why it likely lost (our reading)

- Skipping the product page means shoppers miss photos, details and reviews that help them decide.
- A small icon on a small card is easy to tap by mistake, or easy to miss.
- Adding the default variant may not match what shoppers wanted, and the size prompt adds a step.

## Caveats

The result was not significant: a 75.4% probability that the original was better on add-to-cart rate. Sample size and duration were not shared.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we add a quick-add icon to mobile collection cards, then add-to-cart rate will rise because shoppers can add products without opening each product page.
- Primary metric: Add-to-cart rate
- Guardrail: Mobile conversion rate
- Guardrail: Orders
- Guardrail: Revenue per visitor
- Who should test it: Stores selling repeat or low-consideration products where shoppers already know what they want. It probably fits less well when shoppers need photos, sizing or reviews before buying.
