Rebuilding the mini cart mobile-first with less clutter lifted conversion rate by 7.5% and revenue per visitor by 9.9%, but we treat it as inconclusive. Clean Commit ran this test for an anonymized Shopify store and published it in its A/B test library. Across 35,480 visitors the result did not reach significance, and several layout changes shipped together.

## Result

**+7.5% conversion rate, unproven**

- Conversion rate: +7.5%, with an 86.2% probability of beating the original. Not significant, so inconclusive.
- Revenue per visitor: +9.9%, and average order value +1.4%.
- Desktop conversion rose 14.1% and mobile 4.7%. Mobile revenue per visitor rose 12.0%.
- Add-to-cart rate: -2.0%, a small negative, possibly because cross-sells got less prominent.

## Control

The mini cart had a large header, a big free-shipping area and a promo banner.

## Variant

A smaller header and shipping area, cross-sells moved and spaced out, the promo banner hidden, and subtotal, shipping and checkout kept in view.

## Why it likely came out this way (our reading)

- Less header and promo space puts the subtotal and checkout button in view sooner.
- Spacing out cross-sell controls may have cut accidental taps on mobile.
- Toning down cross-sells may explain the small add-to-cart dip.

## Caveats

Bundled test: five layout changes shipped together, so the result can't be credited to one element. It did not reach significance, and test duration was not shared.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we shrink the mini cart header and promo areas and keep checkout in view, then conversion rate will rise because shoppers face fewer distractions on mobile.
- Primary metric: Conversion rate
- Guardrail: Add-to-cart rate
- Guardrail: Average order value
- Who should test it: Stores whose mini cart is crowded with banners, shipping bars and cross-sells. If yours is already simple, gains will likely be small.
