Showing larger product images in a grid on desktop product pages produced an 11.9% rise in conversion rate and 14.5% more orders. Clean Commit ran this test for an anonymized Shopify store and published it in its A/B test library. We count it as inconclusive: with 2,552 desktop visitors over 16 days, the variant had a 70.7% probability of winning and only 13% statistical power.

## Result

**+11.9% conversion rate**

- Conversion rate: +11.9%, with a 70.7% probability of beating the original. Not significant.
- Orders: +14.5%, and revenue per visitor: +8.8%.
- Add-to-cart rate: -6.6%, a negative result.
- Average order value: -2.8%, slightly negative.

## Control

A desktop product page with a smaller image gallery.

## Variant

Larger product images laid out as a grid on desktop product pages.

## Why it likely came out this way (our reading)

- Bigger images let shoppers see details without clicking through a slider.
- A grid shows several angles at once, which may answer questions about the product faster.
- With a small sample and 13% power, the gap could easily be chance.

## Caveats

Only 2,552 desktop visitors over 16 days, with 13% power, so the test was far too small to confirm a lift. Add-to-cart rate fell 6.6%.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we show larger product images in a grid on desktop, then conversion rate will rise because shoppers see product details clearly and hesitate less.
- Primary metric: Conversion rate on desktop
- Guardrail: Add-to-cart rate
- Guardrail: Average order value
- Who should test it: Desktop-heavy stores selling visual products like apparel or home goods with several good photos per product. With few images or mostly mobile traffic, the change has little room to work.
