# Shorter product gallery on mobile: +24% conversion, not significant

- Outcome: Flat / inconclusive
- Page type: Product page (Ecommerce)
- Elements: Product images & gallery, Layout, fonts & visual design

Shrinking the product image gallery so the title, price and add-to-cart button showed on the first mobile screen lifted conversion rate by 24.0%, but the test did not reach significance. Clean Commit ran this test for an anonymized Shopify store and published it in its A/B test library. The agency labels it a positive signal; we count it as inconclusive because of low power and a small sample.

## Result

**+24% conversion, not significant**

- Conversion rate: +24.0%, with a 95.3% probability of beating the original across 4,788 visitors. Not statistically significant at 23% power.
- Add-to-cart rate: +15.0%, and orders +25.5%.
- Mobile only: conversion rate +11.2% and bounce rate -11.5%, a steadier but smaller gain.
- Revenue per visitor: +62.9%, but this leans on 586 desktop visitors and is not reliable.

## Control

A tall product image gallery that pushed the title, price and add-to-cart button below the first screen on mobile.

## Variant

A shorter, tighter gallery with the same zoom, swipe and lightbox features and image shape, so key purchase details appeared on the first screen.

## Why it likely came out this way (our reading)

- Seeing price and the add-to-cart button without scrolling makes the next step obvious.
- Keeping zoom and swipe meant shoppers lost no way to inspect the product.
- The size of the lift is likely inflated by the small sample; the mobile figure of +11.2% may be closer to reality.

## Caveats

Underpowered: 4,788 visitors at 23% power, so the result is a signal, not proof. The revenue lift relies on 586 desktop visitors, and duration was not shared.

## How to run this test

- Hypothesis: If we reduce the height of the product gallery on mobile, then conversion rate will rise because title, price and add-to-cart appear on the first screen and shoppers scroll less before deciding.
- Primary metric: Mobile conversion rate
- Guardrail: Add-to-cart rate
- Guardrail: Image interactions such as swipe and zoom
- Guardrail: Revenue per visitor
- Who should test it: Mobile-heavy stores whose product gallery fills the first screen. If your price and button already show above the fold, there is little to gain; products that sell on detailed visuals may need the larger images.
